Profound Yet Simple
by Earl W. Powell, Ph.D.
Many of the most profound ideas in life are really very simple and many of the most simple things in life are really very profound. For instance, the basic ideas of many religions can often be stated simply, but they are ideas that have been profound enough to change the course of millions of lives, and indeed, the course of history.
Simple ideas, or what is afterwards thought of as simple, often come through long study and research -- painstaking trial and error until at last the truth is found. Then upon this truth is built a great and lasting contribution of vital concern, sometimes to all mankind.
Much of the simple truth of chiropractic has come this way. Dedicated men and women searching for answers without closed minds, accumulating knowledge dating back even to the father of health philosophy, Hippocrates.
What is this simple idea that now benefits the health of millions people around the world? It is simply that the nerve system is the "message-carrier" of good health to every part of your body. When there is an interference with the messages to and from the brain, in the nerve system, ill-health will result.
There is no more perfectly ordered mechanism in all of creation than the living body. All that is essential to the maintenance of good health is contained WITHIN us and, so long as the life forces commanded by our innate intelligence are permitted to flow freely through the nerve system good health is the inevitable result. Because of the great wealth of knowledge developed over the years, chiropractors today can find nerve interference with greater ease and adjust the spine with greater accuracy to open "nerve contact" and let the message of good health get through.
The profound wish for good health can most often be fulfilled with the simple truth of chiropractic.

What Keeps Us Going?...The Simple Message
By The Weekly Sticky
Ever wonder what keeps your heart beating normally while you sleep, or knows the precise amount of insulin to produce when you eat a slice of pie? How about the process of building and repair. Is it the doctorʼs cast that heals a broken bone, or the band-aid that mends damaged skin? Think again...
Chiropractors recognize that our Creator placed a unique Power (Innate Intelligence) within us all, far greater than any doctor on the planet. This Power keeps us alive and directs our body functions 24/7. It grew you from two cells into a thriving human being and continues to maintain your health if not interfered with.
BJ Palmer once asked... “have you more faith in a knife or a spoonful of medicine than in the power that animates the living world?” Thatʼs a question every chiropractic patient must answer honestly if they want to get the most out of their care.
If you ever doubt who the greatest physician in the world is, just take a look in the mirror.
Upper Cervical Chiropractic attempts to consistently through art and science to free up the spine so that this "power can flow and animate your living world"
(Editor's note: Remember the objective of upper cervical care is to correct head neck misalignment that is interfering with proper brain to body communication. When this is corrected the body functions at a higher level and can often correct other problems more efficiently on its own. Please do not confuse upper cervical care as a treatment for any condition, disease or symptom.)

Where Does The Body Find Answers?
from the Weekly Sticky "Where the Body Finds Answers"
How much stomach acid does it take to digest a
cheeseburger? Or, how much calcium is
needed to heal a broken leg? How about a
fever, how high should it reach to fight a common cold? You don't need to surf Google for the answers,
your INNATE search engine already knows.
If you doubt there's genius inside you, just consider this –
the 50,000,000 cells in your body that will die while you read this sentence…
your innate intelligence knows how to replace every single one of them. The trillions of impulses coursing through
your Nerve System at this moment… innate is moving them at speeds approaching
248 mile per hour. The number of
heartbeats you'll get in your lifetime… innate reserved around 3 billion for
you.
Google may be the web's leading source for information, but
it's got nothing over your innate intelligence when it comes to keeping you
alive and well. Innate has solutions to just about any health challenge you
have. All you have to do is search
within to find the answer.
(Editor's
note: Remember the
objective of upper cervical care is to correct head neck misalignment
that is interfering with proper brain to body communication. When this is
corrected the body functions at a higher level and can often correct other

Why Was I Never Told About This?
Adapted from "Why Didn't Somebody Tell Me This?"
By Dr. Frank BowlingI just watched a short video by Dr. Jim Sigafoose, one of my early mentors, in which he tells the moving story of a very sick young girl whose family had nearly given up hope when, like so many others, they finally sought care for her as a last resort.
Asked whether anything could be done, Dr. Sig replied, “I have no idea – but I can move the bone, and God can do the healing.” The father’s response was, “Why didn’t anybody ever tell me this before?!”
Well, to make a long story short, the girl did get better, but the relevant question here is, “What in the world was Dr. Sigafoose talking about?” Sounds more like religion than science, doesn’t it?
Innate Intelligence
You and I started out as two cells – one from our father, and one from our mother. Those two cells came together and formed the beginning of us, and over a period of about nine months, we went from one cell to (depending on whom you ask), somewhere between 10 and 100 trillion. We might call that “The Miracle of Life.”
The amazing part, though, is not the simple fact that we multiplied from one cell into trillions, but that they all went off in different directions to do different jobs. Some became part of our kneecaps, some formed a heart, some built an immune system, and so on. In other words, it’s like 100 trillion separate little animals crawling off to participate in thousands of complex functions, all conceived, orchestrated and conducted into the most beautiful symphony ever written, and directed by some unseen hand.
Any objective observer, any scientist can tell you that there’s more going on in this process than chemistry and physics. Whatever built us from one cell into a newborn baby did the whole thing on purpose. It certainly was no random accident, no chance collision of molecules. Those little cells are organized.
But here’s the important part: once that innate intelligence forms a new baby, it doesn’t go off and make another one – it stays inside of us, hence the term innate, and runs every aspect of our lives, every second of every day. If we cut ourselves, if we break a bone, if we have a cold or the flu or any other symptom or disease, it’s our own innate intelligence that does the healing. It just knows how to do it.
Medical doctors don’t heal. Medications don’t heal. Operations don’t heal. Upper cervical corrections don’t heal. All any doctor or pill or procedure or upper cervical correction can do is seek to remove the interference to healing, so that the body’s own innate potential can be expressed. Healing always flows from above down, and from the inside out.

Moving the Bone
The principle is almost too simple, which is partly why it’s taking so long for it to be understood and accepted. “What do the bones have to do with innate intelligence?” you might reasonably wonder.
As it turns out, our innate intelligence expresses itself largely through our communication system, the nervous system, and that system is stretched over the body’s frame (the bones) like a spider web, or like the strings of a musical instrument, or like one of my mother’s doilies over that little pegboard she used to pin them on to dry.
Science has now confirmed that any distortion or restriction of our human frame can interfere with the nerves by disturbing their “tone” or “vibration,” in much the same way that the notes produced by plucking a guitar string are changed by altering its tension. Too much or too little, and we won’t be happy with the result.
We know that the nervous system regulates and maintains all of the organs and glands of the body, including the immune system, which determines how well we deal with colds, flu and other infections. We’ve even found out that a disruption of tone to the nerve system can alters gene expression, which affects how likely we are to actually develop the conditions or diseases of our parents. In other words, we aren’t necessarily “doomed” to have the same problems they had – much of our future can be influenced by the choices we make in our own lives, including whether and how we choose to care for our spines.
The Story
For over 35 years now, I’ve been sharing the above information with everyone who would listen. As Dr. Christopher Kent, another of my mentors, expresses it, “We’re talking about sculpting the future of the destiny of mankind by educating people about their choices.” In my college days, we just called it, “telling the story.”
Consider yourself told.
Wishing you health, happiness and peace this Christmas season,
Dr. Frank Bowling

Light, Darkness and Upper Cervical Care...What?
Adapted from "How Do You Remove The Darkness From a Room?"
Easy question, eh?
The answer is totally obvious. In
fact, I’ll bet you didn’t even hesitate with your response. The answer, of course, is that you turn on a
light! But notice something very
interesting and important about your answer.
You didn’t really remove the darkness.
Instead, you added light. And, as
you add light, darkness automatically leaves because darkness and light can’t
exist in the same place at the same time.
While we understand and accept this to be true about darkness
and light, most of us have never applied this concept to other areas of our
lives. This principle of adding (or
creating) what we do want, instead of focusing on eliminating or preventing
what we don't want is universally effective in bringing us to where we want to
be. It is simple really, when you fill a
space with one thing, it must displace whatever was there before!
Here is another example.
If you are stressed out and you would rather be in a peaceful state of
mind, begin creating peace. That is, do
things that actively and progressively produce peace, and as peace comes,
stress will automatically leave - just as when we add light, darkness
leaves! If you are spending the majority
of your time thinking, saying and doing things that bring you and those around
you peace, there will be very little time left for you to be stressed. Mother Theresa understood this principle and
applied it to every area of her own life.
She was once asked if she would participate in a protest march against
the Vietnam War. She replied, “No, but
if you have a march for peace, let me know.”
Remember, when we fill a space with one thing, it must displace whatever
was there before.
Upper cervical care is all about applying this concept to your
health. Many people spend large amounts
of time, energy and money trying to get rid of their pain and illnesses. But, in a very real way, we can add light to
this situation as well, rather than trying to remove the darkness. You have inside of you a powerful life force
that runs, regulates, heals and grows your body. We call this your innate intelligence. When this principle is fully expressed or,
“turned on,” it is like turning on a light inside of you that displaces any darkness (sickness/pain) that was there before.
You see, your innate intelligence is a principle of life – it always knows what to
do to keep you running at your highest level, including healing you when you’re
sick. But, we in upper cervical care do not
actually focus on healing you, we simply seek to make sure the power that runs your body – your light – is on.
Then, your innate intelligence goes to work healing you.
We accomplish this by giving what is called an upper cervical correction that helps establish a more complete neurological connection between your
brain and your body and allow your innate intelligence to again flow freely to all of
your cells. That's it! That’s all upper cervical care is about. It’s about making sure that the
health-producing power inside you has a chance to do its best to move you
progressively toward optimal health, happiness and the full expression of your
potential and your purpose in life!
So, if you, your family or your friends have been frustrated
by continually trying to remove darkness (disease), maybe it’s time to take a
different approach – maybe it’s time to turn on your light and watch the
darkness just fade away.

Amazing What The Living Body Knows
In today’s world, there is a doctor or specialist for every
part of your body. The best doctor ever created works to keep us healthy and
alive 24 hours a day. It is inside of us and it is referred to as the innate intelligence. Regardless of your beliefs, it is self evident, and we could all agree that life is intelligent. This
intelligence within us…
■Draws the blueprint and organizes every living organ for your body
■Regulates, directs and controls the body all of the time
■Knows when something is wrong inside of you and how to fix it.
■Rebuilds all tissues, organs, muscles and bones
■Tells you when to sneeze, when to blow your nose, when to go bathroom,
when to sweat and when to shiver
■Raises the skin into a blister when the skin is burned
■Heals a broken bone or cut on the skin
■Tells you when to blink your eyes
■Grows your toe nails, fingernails, and hair
■Beats your heart and puts air into your lungs
■Regulates your body temperature
■Tells you when you are tired, thirsty or hungry
■Gets any sick organ or part of the body well
■KEEPS YOU ALIVE!
This intelligence uses our nerve system to coordinate and maintain us in a living and hopefully optimally healthy state. If there is an interruption or disturbance to
your body’s inborn wisdom, odds are you are Subluxated.
SUBLUXATION is a condition that occurs when the top two vertebrae in your spine misalign causing the messages from the brain to the
body to become distorted due to the pressure placed upon the Brainstem. Living in this state, your body is breaking down
and beginning to malfunction. The longer
you live in this state, the less of your potential your body will express. Sickness and/or disease can result.

Medical Doctor and Upper Cervical Doctors Agree!
At first glance you'd think an upper cervical doctor was responsible
for these words. But they were actually
written by a Harvard medical school instructor in the late 1800's. While this belief is trivialized by the
medical and pharmaceutical community today, it remains the core foundation of
the practice of upper cervical care.
Upper cervical doctors humbly acknowledge that "the ONLY thing
that can heal the body is the Power that created it." The wisdom Dr. Cabot refers to in his quote
is called innate intelligence by upper cervical doctors. It is the genius of Life that animates our
cells, tissues and organs. It is the
coordinating force that maintains our body's intricate chemical balance. It silently and knowingly orchestrates all
steps involved in the healing process from mending a broken bone to putting
cancer in remission. It is in favor of
you living, rather than you dying.
The most important job of an upper cervical doctor is to teach you
about this great force and keep you connected to it. If you want to meet the REAL doctor
responsible for healing you, take a look in the mirror. It’s the one staring right back at you.

Upper Cervical Care: Helping Kids With Scoliosis
Can you Protect your Children from Scoliosis?
By Dr. Bill Davis
The Problem
“Scoliosis is a disorder that causes an abnormal curve of the spine, or backbone. The spine has normal curves when looking from the side, but it should appear straight when looking from the front.” (see picture) www.emedicine.net According to WebMD “In about 80% of cases, the cause of scoliosis is not known.” 80%! Wow that is a lot! In 8/10 of the people who have been diagnosed with scoliosis or curvature in the spine the medical profession have no clue what causes it.
Generally, the scoliosis is found when a child is examined for scoliosis in middle school. But frequently scoliosis is undetected until adulthood. Regardless, the earlier the curvature can be found the better. If it is identified at 13 years of age and it is already 15 degrees…it would have been much better to find it at 7 years of age when it was 8 degrees don’t you think? Especially if the underlying cause can be corrected and the progression of the scoliosis can be stopped. Also the earlier the scoliosis is identified the more likely the condition can be reversed.
Scoliosis has psychological consequences as well as physical consequences. Self image can be negatively impacted, especially in the formative adolescent years. Scoliosis can be so mild that an untrained eye cannot see the curve, or it can be severe enough to cause deformity. Children are often made fun of as a result of these deformities.
The physical consequences are much worse though. People with scoliosis are a greater risk of developing heart problems, breathing problems, osteoporosis, accelerated disc degeneration and spinal pain, reproductive function and pregnancy problems can be just some of the consequences associated with untreated scoliosis.
The medical approach has 3 main strategies. Wait until it gets worse! Put a brace on the entire trunk for up to 23 hours a day! Or dangerous surgery! Doesn’t sound like fun to me! Which of these approaches gets to the underlying cause?…none of them? The medical approach is focused on the effects and not the cause obviously.
The Upper Neck Connection
Two medical doctors from Europe have done extensive research into upper neck problems in newborns and how that relates to the health of children. Dr. Gutmann was researching the connection all the way back to the 1960′s… in 1987 Dr. Gutmann published his research linking the upper neck to problems ranging from scoliosis to ear infections, torticollis, colic and many other common childhood conditions.
Dr. Biedermann also has published extensively on this subject and published his findings in 1992. Between the 2 medical researchers they have studied over 1000 newborns and have observed a very high incidence of upper cervical misalignments on x-ray. Gutmann found over 80% in his study had problems in the upper neck that needed to be addressed! Birth trauma was the most common cause. Forceps delivery, vacuum extraction and even just normal birthing methods with a woman flat on her back rather than in the standing position where gravity can work, can be an extremely traumatic experience for the head and neck of a newborn.
It is reported that within the general population the incidence of Scoliosis is about 2.5% or about 25 per 1000 people. However, that is only the people who are identified as having scoliosis and it only includes those that have a 10 degree curvature or more. A 7,8, or 9 degree scoliosis can still have dramatic affects on the health of a person’s spine and body. Also many individuals have no idea that they have a curvature in their spine until adulthood. I have seen patients in my office who are in their 60′s who were unaware of a 10-15 degree scoliosis!
If the weight of the head is not balanced over the spinal column due to accidents and injuries to the upper neck this can result in postural changes including head tilt, shoulder tilt, hips uneven, and leg imbalance. The earlier the child develops this upper neck misalignment the more likely it is for them to develop a scoliosis when they hit their growth spurt.
A Solution
Early detection is the key to stopping the progression and possibly correct the scoliosis completely. All children should be evaluated after birth and regularly thoroughout the childhood years for the presence of an upper neck misalignment that could start this process in their spine. If a curvature is detected than the misalignment should be corrected as soon as possible. If the scoliosis is already very advanced due to lack of evaluation, than the misalignment should still be corrected and maintained and postural exercises should be given in order to prevent future progression. The longer the curvature has been there the more likely it will be to not correct completely.
(Editor's note: Certainly some people, especially young people, who have head/neck misalignment and have it corrected will experience drastic improvements in scoliosis. However, please remember the objective of upper cervical care is to correct head neck misalignment that is interfering with proper brain to body communication. When this is corrected the body functions at a higher level and can often correct other problems more efficiently on its own. Please do not confuse upper cervical care as a treatment for scoliosis or any other condition, disease or symptom.)

Upper Cervical Care And The Sum Of The Parts

Adapted from "The Whole Is Equal to the Sum of Its Parts"
by Dr. Joseph Strauss
"The whole is equal to the sum of its parts", that is an axiom, a true statement. The problem is that it can only be easily understood with regard to mathematics and the hard sciences. When it comes to, say, something like the human body, it is a little more difficult to understand, primarily because we can only know some of the parts through our senses. There are parts of the body that are outside the realm of our knowledge, parts of the body that defy understanding in the empirical realm, that is, parts of the body that are not physical. How do you measure love? How do you quantify the will? How much does desire weigh? These are parts of a human being that we cannot measure, yet we know they exist. We know how much the “human” part of you weighs. You can step on a scale and we can measure it. But what about the “being” part of you? Can you measure that?
In upper cervical care we acknowledge an unseen, immeasurable, immaterial part of living things. We call it the innate intelligence. It is the principle of life… whether that life is in the form of a plant, an animal or a living person. While there are differences between plants, animals and human beings, the innate intelligence is the one thing that all living organisms have in common. With it, the organism grows, reproduces, assimilates food and most important, adapts.
How can we prove that if it cannot be measured? Well, we can use the most unscientific means of proving something. It’s called “common sense.” A dead animal or plant does not adapt. A live one does. You can call it whatever you want but innate intelligence is as good a name as any. It is the principle of life that when interfered with causes a degree of loss of life, somewhere between 1% and 100%.
The objective of the upper cervical doctor is to reduce, as completely as possible, the interference that is due to head/neck misalignment. We cannot do anything when that interference is 100%. But with anything less than that, the person would benefit from being under upper cervical care, regardless of what the manifestation of that lack of life is called or even if there is no physical manifestation of that absence. They may also need some other type of care. However, nothing but upper cervical care will reduce the interference in a systematic and repeatable way.

Who Is The Greatest Doctor On The Planet?

At first glance you'd think an upper cervical doctor was responsible for these words. But they were actually written by a Harvard medical school instructor and practitioner in the late 1800's. While this belief is trivialized today by the medical and pharmaceutical community, it remains the core foundation of Upper Cervical Care.

Upper cervical doctors often, and most certainly should, let you know about this great force inside you. If you really want to know who's responsible for getting you better from the weak state, chronic illness, incapacitating pain or depressing condition you first walked in with? Take a look in the mirror. It was the best doctor on the planet, the one staring right back at you, that did ALL the work.

Your Body: No Instructions Included?

We often fail to read the instructions before undertaking a task. Occasionally I may find myself at a self-serve gas station unable to get the pump going. Then I read the little instruction screen that says, “Pay the attendant inside first.” How often do we attempt to put together a new toy, new bicycle or a piece of furniture without bothering to read the instructions, unless of course we get stuck? Who takes the time to read the owner’s manual before driving off in a new car? Who ever reads the thick instruction booklet on a new DVD or Blu-ray player? What do we do? We plug it in, turn it on, and begin to use it right away. If it doesn’t work right, we try what we use to do before even though it might be a totally different model and manufacturer. When all else fails, then we read the instruction booklet.
Computer programmers have found a way to deal with this problem. They put the instructions on the screen and force you to go through them one screen at a time by clicking on “next.” Further, they give you all kinds of warnings and graphics to make you fearful to click to the next screen without reading the instructions. Of course, anyone who has used a computer is more likely to follow the screen’s instructions. It’s easier to take apart and reassemble a new back-yard barbecue grill then it is to fix a crashed computer. It never hurts to read the instructions first even if it does take a little longer and most of the time it avoids difficulties which are time consuming and have the potential for harm.
Ironically, the most important “appliance” in the world does not come with instructions. Wouldn’t it be nice if that new baby came into the world with “instructions for care and upbringing” tattooed on his little behind. There are many books on upbringing that help. Unfortunately, most of the books often elicit the response “that wouldn’t work with my kid!” That is because every child has a different personality. So we do the best we can and maybe hope for supernatural intervention.
The care of the body presents a similar problem. Every human body is a little different. There aren’t any instructions that fit everybody. We are designed as different on the inside as we are on the outside. Our individual bodies’ needs and functions are as different as our personalities. An instructional book is an impossibility. There are some common-sense measures regarding diet, rest and exercise that we can apply to everyone so we are not totally at a loss. Even better, we do not have to hope for supernatural intervention. That intervention is automatic. Within the living body is an innate intelligence capable of running the body from birth to death. It knows how to cool the “appliance” when it overheats, shut it down for rest, sleep and repair when overworked and so much more. It perfectly burns fuel (food) and eliminates wastes. It is run by the world’s most advanced computer. Its function is coordinated by the brain and nerve system. But glitches can occur in the system. When these glitches are caused by head/neck misalignment than upper cervical care can be of assistance. Upper cervical care corrects head/neck misalignment so the 'computer' can function properly and people can experience a fuller, more productive life. That is no small thing. So before you develop problems that cannot be corrected or just to make sure all your parts are working as they should, consider a simple guideline: Get periodic upper cervical check-ups.

Upper Cervical Care And Genetics

DNA, three little letters that no one ever heard of a century ago yet today almost everyone has heard of. Although most people do not know that DNA stands for, deoxyribonucleic acid, we do know that it is the blueprint for the human body. Within the genes of a fertilized egg are the plans for everything from the color of your eyes to the maximum amount of time you have on the earth. Scientists have even identified many of these genes and determined what their responsibility is in various functions within the body. Their desire is to alter these genes and to repair damaged ones that may lead to medical conditions. Genetic altering and cloning are just part of this entire concept that sounds very much like science fiction. But then who would have thought 75 years ago that we would be talking to each other on phones without wires!
The discovery of the genetic code was truly a great event, worthy of the Nobel Prize that it gained for its discovers. But in all the hoopla and attention paid to the genetic code we have lost sight of the fact that it is just a blueprint. First, a blueprint does not create itself. It is the result of thoughts of an intelligent person. The architect or the designer makes the blueprint. The blueprint may say your eyes are going to be blue but it did not design the thousand parts that make up the eye anymore than the blueprint grew the wood or made the bricks that will go into the building. That too took intelligent actions on the part of brick makers, and of course, “only God can make a tree.”
The major area where the genome discovers went wrong was to assume that the DNA makes the body, that it creates new cells to fashion the organs and tissues of the human organism. That would be like setting down the set of blueprints at the work site, dumping the bricks, cement, steel and wood next to it and saying “go ahead blueprint, erect this building.”
Blueprints are great, even necessary to the success of the building and perpetuation of any structure. (If a building was just thrown together without a design it probably would not last very long). DNA is necessary for the design and perpetuation of the human organism, but it is only a blueprint. The architect and the builder of the human body is a principle called life. In upper cervical care, we call that principle the innate (inborn) intelligence of the body. It even repairs and makes changes to the blueprint. It then takes the blueprint and creates the organs and system of the body. It will even make changes when the blueprint is not quite what it should be. The innate intelligence can compensate for weaknesses in our DNA. For example, just because you have a genetic tendency toward a condition like diabetes does not mean you will necessarily have the disease. The innate intelligence of the body can overcome certain genetic predispositions. It can do it a lot better if it is free to express itself. That is where upper cervical care comes in.
The innate intelligence uses the nerve system to cause function, adapt the body and compensate for genetic weaknesses. If there is an interference in the nerve system due to head/neck misalignment the body just cannot adapt and compensate as well. Your DNA is important. But remember a dead body has cells all with DNA and it does that body no good. Only the life-giving, life-enhancing innate intelligence of the body can direct the DNA to benefit you, your life and that of your family.

Upper Cervical Care And Body Chemistry

Better living through chemistry? Remove the question mark from the above and you will be left with the slogan of a major international chemical manufacturing company. The thought was that science could create products that would improve the quality and possibly quantity of life. The basic premise being that science knows what is best for our bodies, that they have the knowledge needed to create chemicals that will perfectly enhance human performance. Judging by the amount of money spent on drugs, medications, vitamins, etc., it appears that the majority of the American population trusts that chemicals from outside of the body will improve life. Yet in matters of life and health, logic, not popularity should be the most valid yardstick for determining how to take care of our bodies. Perhaps we should take a closer look at what is happening on the inside before we decide if chemicals from the outside are the answer.
With even a basic understanding of human physiology, we can understand that all levels of human performance are governed by our internal body chemistry. We cannot do anything without first making a chemical. Our moods, energy level, ability to concentrate, ability to repair damaged tissue, and physical coordination are just some of the many areas of performance that are dependent on body chemistry. The delicate chemical balance within our body can greatly determine how we will function at a given moment or throughout a day, week, year, or even a lifetime.
Many people look to artificially enhance their performance by taking chemicals from outside their body. Years ago, the Russian women’s track and field team won many medals in the Goodwill Games. Later, it was discovered that these “athletes” had artificially enhanced their performance by taking steroids. These chemicals improved their strength, speed and overall athletic ability, but they also received some unwanted benefits (what we often call side effects). Their voices got deeper, they grew facial hair and their bodies became more male-like from the steroids. So after the Goodwill Games committee stripped them of their medals, they had nothing to show for their efforts other than their deep voices and facial hair.
The point of the above example is this: It is true that chemicals from outside of the body can alter and even enhance some areas of a person’s performance. It is important to also recognize though that these same chemicals have affects on other aspects of one’s performance (what many refer to as side effects or adverse reactions). Simply put, you cannot take a chemical from the outside-in without affecting the entire internal balance of body chemistry.
We all express an innate intelligence that maintains our level of performance in all aspects of life. This innate intelligence is expressed through the nerve system (brain, spinal cord and nerves). Through this vast communication network, the innate intelligence of the body maintains the internal chemical balance. As long as the proper information is clearly expressed through the nerve system, the glands will know when, where, and how much of a particular chemical is needed at any given time. The result is not only balanced body chemistry and optimal performance, but no “side effects” as well.
However, if there is interference to the communication system (nerve system) than the body chemistry cannot be balanced naturally and performance in all areas of life suffers. One such type of interference is head/neck misalignment. Upper cervical care assists the body in correcting this type of interference to the nerve system so that the body chemistry may be balanced naturally. Even if you choose to take chemicals from the outside to alter your performance, make sure you do not have interference in the nerve system due to head neck misalignment. That way your body can do its best to maintain the chemical balance that is disrupted by the chemical from the outside-in. So there is better living through chemistry but it is the chemistry your own body produces when it is free of interference.

Upper Cervical Doctors Don't Know Much?
A human being has 7 cervical (neck) vertebrae. How many do you think a giraffe has? Answer: 7 also. Humans have a total of 24 vertebrae in their spines. How many do you think a python snake has? Answer: 525. Why the sameness of giraffes and humans and the difference of humans and snakes? I don’t know. In fact, there are a lot of things that I don’t know about the human body both in its design and in its function. Lest you think that I am not very smart, let me add that the most knowledgeable scientists, anatomists, physiologists and doctors don’t know much about the body either. It has been estimated that we only know one-tenth of one percent (0.10%) of what there is to know about the body and its function. While we are all in pretty much the same boat when it comes to knowing about the body, those addressing the needs of the body are divided into two distinctly different groups when it comes to how to respond to our ignorance.
The first group feels that ignorance is relative. If they know more than someone else, or almost everyone else, they are okay. They feel they can just ignore or play down the importance of what they do not know. They do not subscribe to the idea that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. They try to affect what they can with the hope that the little they know will be significant enough to help a person. This group often sees the body as just a product of random activity affected by the circumstances around it. As such they feel comfortable in intervening, changing its function or its circumstances to whatever they think is best at any given moment.
The second group acknowledges its ignorance of the body and that this ignorance is a vital factor in relating to the human organism and its needs. They also realize that the living body has within it a means, an organizing principle, capable of running every internal function. Their ignorance just makes it all the more important that they allow the organizing principle to run the body. This group does not see the body as a product of random activity and chance but as a creation of an all-knowing Wisdom, designed to function according to principles which, if not interfered with, will do just that.
By now you have probably realized that upper cervical care falls into this second group. We call this organizing principle innate intelligence because it is there from birth (inborn) and the word intelligence emphasizes its wisdom in contrast to our ignorance. It makes human beings as well as giraffes with seven cervical vertebrae not because seven is a lucky number but because six would be too few and eight too many. It builds us with twenty-four vertebrae and the python with 525 because that is how many we need and how many the python needs. It is the wisdom which not only designs and builds a body in nine months but can run it for 100 or more years. People do live that long! However, its ability to run the body, heal the body and enable the person to reach his or her full potential in life can be limited by interference in the nerve system caused by head/neck misalignment. When this happens that organizing principle will probably not work as well as it should. Upper cervical care corrects these misalignments. They do not try to run the body but merely remove the interference to the expression of this innate intelligence.
