What Has Responded To Upper Cervical Care?

Advice for Allergy "Season"
Allergy season is a horrible time of year. Here in the Midwest, if you want to find
someone who suffers with seasonal allergies all you have to do is throw a
rock. You’ll hit one. Actually, it’s likely that the rock you threw
will hit another allergy sufferer on the ricochet. It’s sort of normal around here. Well…not normal. It’s prevalent. I even remember as a kid taking allergy
medicine. I didn’t have my own. My mom had a prescription allergy medication
and I would take that. After all, what
harm could come from taking someone else’s prescription?
So clearly I haven’t always made the best health care
choices. But thankfully things are
different for me as an adult. I can’t
remember the last time I took allergy medication. It had to have been more than 10 years
ago. Actually, I can’t remember the last
time I took any sort of anti-histamine.
And my new found lack of allergies has nothing to do with some sort of
quest to find the missing pieces to the allergy puzzle. It has everything to do with the fact that I
started doing things that would help my immune system function at it’s peak.
You see, a runny nose or watery eyes aren’t necessarily bad
things. Even when the body creates all
sorts of gross mucus you can’t just jump to the conclusion that something is
wrong. Histamine reactions (ie: runny nose,
watery eyes, drainage) are just your body’s way of protecting itself. If your body determines that something you
are breathing in is dangerous to your body, then your immune system reacts to
it. That’s what it is supposed to
do. That’s the way we were created. The problem isn’t what your body is
doing. The problem is WHEN your body is
doing it.
If your body is over-reacting, that’s not a good thing. If your body reacts to every speck of dust or
sliver of fresh cut grass like it’s a health terrorist that is coming to
destroy your wellbeing, you end up living your entire life with a stuffed up
sinuses and watery eyes. NO FUN. But if your body realizes that most of the time
dust and fresh cut grass are not anything to react to, then you are considered
to be one of the “lucky ones” that don’t suffer with allergy problems.
So the key to going from suffering with allergies and not
suffering with allergies (or at least suffering less) is to build up your
immune system. Your immune system is
like a muscle. It can be strong or it
can be weak. And there are a lot of ways
to strengthen your immune system. Most
of them are going to involve dietary and lifestyle changes. Most people don’t want to hear that, but it’s
true.
The thing that helped me the most was an area where allergy
improvement was most unexpected. It was
after I became an Upper Cervical patient.
I didn’t start care with the intent to improve my allergies. It never even dawned on me that it was
possible that Upper Cervical could help. I have since learned that my experience is not
that uncommon. One of the most common
“unexpected” benefits of Upper Cervical care is an improvement in allergy and
sinus problems. I refer to it as an
“unexpected” benefit because we have a lot of patients that, like me, started
care for some other reason and the allergy and sinus improvement was a bonus to
care.

Allergies and Asthma... Upper Cervical Care?

(Editor's note: Remember the objective of upper cervical care is to correct head neck misalignment that is interfering with proper brain to body communication. When this is corrected the body functions at a higher level and can often correct other problems more efficiently on its own. Please do not confuse upper cervical care as a treatment for asthma, allergies or any other condition, disease or symptom.)
Asthma & Allergies
The Brain Stem and Breathing
The nervous system is a very complex system designed to control and coordinate the body’s vital functions. One of those functions is to control the respiratory system and lungs. Consider that you can climb a flight of stairs, run, swim, or ride a bike without even thinking about your breathing. That’s because the respiratory center, housed in the brain stem, is responsible for adjusting the rate of breathing to the demands of the body so that proper oxygen and carbon dioxide levels remain unchanged even during strenuous exercise.
Asthma
Asthma involves both the lungs and the immune system and has become the most common and costly illness in the United States. An estimated 17 million Americans suffer from asthma at an annual cost of over $13 billion. Asthma accounts for more hospitalizations than any other childhood disease, and children suffering from asthma miss more than 10 million days of school every year. Nearly 5000 people die from causes related to asthma each year, and it is one of the few diseases with an increasing death rate.
Even though asthma is a common condition, if is far from simple. During an asthma attack, the airways become narrow and obstructed due to a combination of muscle spasm, inflammation, and excess mucus production. The symptoms, which vary among sufferers, include wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness and chronic coughing.
Asthma attacks can be triggered by any condition that causes inflammation in the airways. These triggers include irritants like the following: dust mites, animal dander, pollen, mold, pollution, smoke, exercise, cold air, or intense emotions.
Asthma and Allergies
Many asthma sufferers also have allergies, which, although related, differ from asthma. However, allergens like pollen, mold, animal dander, and dust mites can make asthma symptoms worse by increasing inflammation in the airways.
Common Medical Treatments for Asthma
Common medical treatments for asthma include anti-inflammatory drugs, inhaled corticosteroids, or long-acting bronchodilators, names like Singulair, Albuterol, Ventolin, Atrovent. and Prednisone. According to the Physician’s Desk Reference, these drugs can have dangerous side effects.
Possible Causes of Asthma
While the cause of asthma is still unknown, many researchers believe asthma is caused by a disturbance of the respiratory center within the brain stem. In fact, one study suggests this is the “common denominator” and basic underlying mechanism in all varieties of asthma. This disturbance is believed to cause the muscles of the airway to contract thus restricting the flow of air in the lungs.
Upper Cervical Care and the Brain Stem
Misalignments of the top two vertebrae (bones) in the cervical spine (neck) can cause disturbances within the brain stem and respiratory center. Studies have shown that Upper Cervical care dramatically improves lung function. One published report showed that each asthma patient in the study improved from 87% to 100% with Upper Cervical care.

Allergies, Asthma And Upper Cervical Care

from Allergies & Asthma
by Dr. Richard Hagmeyer
Asthma is a condition involving hypersensitivity of the immune system and of the airways (the tubes through which air passes between the nose and mouth to the lungs). During an asthma attack, the airways become obstructed due to muscle contraction, inflammation, and excess mucus production, resulting in wheezing and/or coughing symptoms.
The job of the immune system is to identify foreign substances such as viruses and bacteria and remove them. Normally, this response protects us from dangerous diseases. In a person with allergies or asthma, the immune system reacts to harmless substances such as plant pollen or animal dander and creates allergy (stuffy nose, watery eyes, etc.) or asthma (wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath) symptoms. Asthma and allergies are closely associated because of the common systems involved — the immune system and the respiratory system. Often, an asthma attack can result from an allergic reaction. Asthma sufferers are also more susceptible to having colds develop into bronchitis, which can trigger an asthma attack.
How Upper Cervical Care Relates to Allergies and Asthma

Many allergic and asthmatic reactions are due to hypersensitivity of the immune system and/or respiratory system. This means that the immune and respiratory systems initiate an exaggerated response (allergy attack, asthma attack, coughing attack, skin rash) to something in the environment such as dust, pollen, grass, foods, etc. Since the immune and respiratory systems depend upon normal communication from the brain and spinal cord to control and coordinate their functions, alterations in neurological function can contribute to malfunctions in these systems.
Specifically, an imbalance in autonomic nervous system function, caused by input from upper cervical spinal joint irritation (neck misalignment), can produce or exaggerate asthmatic and allergic symptoms via control over airway dilation and immune responses. While many asthma and allergy sufferers recall specific traumas such as head injuries, auto accidents or falls, which could have injured their upper cervical spines, some do not. In certain pediatric cases, the injury can occur from the normal birthing process. An upper cervical examination Digital Infrared Imaging is necessary in each individual’s case to assess whether an upper cervical injury is present and whether benefit from upper cervical care can be achieved.

Seasonal Allergies? Check out Upper Cervical Care

by Dr Brandon Harshe.
(Editor's Note: This was part of his May Newsletter. Click here to view the entire newsletter.)
Spring is a beautiful time of the year. Flowers are blossoming, trees are blooming, and leaves are turning green.
It is also a time for a certain disorder of the immune system, something we know as seasonal allergies.
But did you know that allergies are not a part of life, that it is not normal to experience itchiness, conjunctivitis, and runny noses dripping with mucous? These symptoms are signs that your immune system is compromised, that it cannot defend itself against normally harmless substances we call allergens.
Because our immune systems can’t withstand these allergens, our IgE antibodies activate an excessive amount of mast cells (white blood cells) and basophils to respond, creating an extreme case of inflammation. Hence, the symptoms mentioned above.
So, if allergies are a disorder of the immune system, how do you fix it?
As it turns out, the immune system, like every other system in the body, is controlled by the nervous system. The nervous system is the master system in the body, controlling all functions in the body such as heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, gastrointestinal function, etc.
Interference to the nervous system will compromise any of those aforementioned systems, including the immune system. Interference comes by way of a spinal misalignment that results in pressure or tension on the spinal cord (in the upper cervical spine). Since the brain stem is the mission control center of the nervous system, a (misalignment in the upper neck) can be very debilitating to the overall function of the body.
This allergy season, make sure your immune system is functioning properly by getting your nervous system checked. As someone who has suffered from bad seasonal allergies most of my life, I can tell you from experience how important this is for your health. Don’t wait. Make an appointment with your (upper cervical doctor) to get checked today!

Head/Neck Misalignment May Cause What?

When the upper neck is out of position, certain nerves may be affected. If those nerves cannot supply your body parts (organs, glands, muscles, bones, etc.) with energy and information, they may not work properly and various conditions may result.
While there's not a 100% correlation between head/neck misalignment and a particular health problem, over a century of clinical observations have revealed that a wide range of conditions seem to be associated with it.
Your first bone in the neck is called C-1 but it also has a special name: the "atlas." Why? Because it holds up the globe of your head just as the Greek god Atlas held up the globe of the heavens. The second bone in your neck or C-2 also has a special name: the axis. That's because it's involved in turning, twisting and tilting your head.
Nerves in the upper neck area affect your head, face, upper neck, inner & middle ear, sympathetic nerve system, optic nerves, sinuses, mastoid bones, tongue, forehead, heart, eyes, auditory nerves, pituitary gland, scalp, brain and more! So many nerves are in this area that when the upper neck is corrected nerves all over your body, your spinal cord, brain, brain coverings (meninges) as well as your entire spine from top to bottom may be helped.
What can head/neck misalignment do to me?
Head/neck misalignment and the accompanying irritation to the nerve system has been related to headaches, migraines, nervousness, insomnia, head colds, nervous "breakdowns", anxiety, difficulty concentrating, ear infections, hormonal problems, menstrual difficulties, depression, "brain fog", low IQ, low resistance to disease, low overall brain function, digestive problems, sinus troubles, allergies, crossed eyes, deafness, eye troubles, fainting spells and seizures as well as many other conditions..
Upper Cervical Doctors are able to locate and correct those of your upper neck: your atlas and axis (C-1 and C-2). What can cause C-1 and/or C-2 to go out of place? Stress is often the culprit. Sometimes a difficult or even not-so-difficult birth can misalign the upper neck and cause body malfunction and health problems for someone for the rest of their lives. That's why it's especially important for these areas to be checked by an Upper Cervical Doctor as early as possible.
Other causes of head/neck misalignment include falls, accidents, getting knocked around playing sports, emotional traumas, chemical stress such as junk food and anything that overcomes your natural tendency to stay balanced.
By the way, there are many different ways of working with this area but Upper Cervical Care provided by an Upper Cervical Doctor will in most cases yield a precise and lasting correction to this area with NO forceful twisting, pulling, or popping of the neck.

The Upper Cervical Story of Louella Harris

Louella's Story is amazing and the non-profit organization she started is equally so. The National Awareness Campaign for Upper Cervical Care (NACUCC). The next few posts will be from information put out by NACUCC. Enjoy!
"So Much Pain. So Unnecessary!"
Louella Harris contracted polio in 1958, in Kenya, East Africa she was 3 years old. Thirty-four years later, after appearing on television and radio for affirmative action in her state, obtaining a Master's degree and getting married, pain began creeping up Louella's arms and neck and burned into her chest. Her medical doctors called it a combination of Post Polio Syndrome, and a condition called Fibromyalgia. Their only recommendations were painkillers and exercise. The pain grew so intense that Louella became confined to bed for months. Any sort of movement at all was agony. Her husband, Richard, became her personal attendant, He dressed and fed her and helped with all her personal needs on a daily basis. Louella couldn't even sit up to watch television or hold a book.
In desperation, the Harrises tried everything, including chiropractic. The problem was that the chiropractic procedure she experienced, while it had helped others, didn’t seem to help her. To make matters worse her medical doctors only offered drugs and exercise. Nutrition wasn't even affecting the pain. At that point, there honestly didn’t seem to be any answers anywhere.
Then, one day, while she lay in bed fighting the pain and watching the clock to see when she could take her next pain pill, Louella had an uncanny feeling come over her. The inexplicable feeling carried a message. The message was that indeed there was an answer for her. And when she found it, it was going to be much bigger than just for her.
A few weeks later, a friend called and told her about a little known procedure practiced by less than 2000 chiropractors worldwide. Louella located one of the Upper Cervical chiropractors in her state. He turned out to be a highly skilled, big-hearted doctor who took the time to call her back and answer as many questions as possible without actually examining her. He gave Louella no guarantees, but the information he shared with her was different than anything she had ever heard of before. That in itself gave her hope.
Four months after Louella first experienced precision Upper Cervical chiropractic she was out of bed, back to work, and pregnant! Nine months later she gave birth to a baby girl at age 39, naturally. That was just the beginning.
After her dramatic recovery, Richard and Louella met people who had struggled with all kinds of conditions. These were people who had been told by their medical doctors there was nothing that could be done for them. Yet their conditions were either being eased or eliminated all together by having their bodies balanced and proper communication between the body and the brain stem restored. These were people who had suffered from fibromyalgia, migraines, epilepsy, ADD, hypertension, trigeminal neuralgia, TMJ, some forms of arthritis and carpal tunnel, immune system disorders, herniated disks, numbness and tingling in the limbs, allergies and asthma, neck, back, arm and feet pain, sciatica and more, all of which were improving to some degree or another. Victims of accidents were being helped at a fraction of the time and expense as those undergoing traditional forms of rehabilitation. The procedure was not a cure-all by any means. However, it was surprising how much improvement was experienced by so many people with a variety of conditions that did not seem to have any apparent commonality.
Richard and Louella soon realized that if healthy children and adults would get under this care, countless problems could be avoided before they ever start. But people just didn’t know to do that. The Harrises didn't. In fact, when it finally dawned on the Harrises how fundamental this procedure was to overall health, they were appalled at their own ignorance and the ignorance of the general public. They had lived almost 40 years with absolutely no information about this at all.
It was obvious that at the age of 3 when Louella’s health problems first started, if someone had told Louella’s parents about this procedure, her whole life might have been different. When the Harrises grasped the fact that all that suffering might have been avoided, not just in her life, but in the lives of millions of others, they felt impelled to take a leap of faith, drop both their careers, and found the National Awareness Campaign for Upper Cervical Care. The N.A.C.U.C.C. is a non-profit consumer awareness organization dedicated to educating the public worldwide about this care.
During one of her interviews on CBS, Louella said, “This type of health care was available all the time I suffered. We just didn't know about it. It's one thing to hurt because nothing can be done. It's entirely another to suffer because of ignorance. That's tragic. There are millions of adults in pain right now because they've never heard of this. There are millions of children facing a lifetime of problems because their parents are unaware of the critical role the care of the brain stem area, plays in the future health of their child. There’s so much pain and it’s so unnecessary. It has to stop. The NACUCC is committed to reaching every man, woman and child with this information. When the public at large finally grasps how fundamental Upper Cervical health care is to the health of the entire body, it will change how we take care of ourselves and how we take care of our children.”
BRAIN MESSAGES DIRECT ALL BODY FUNCTIONS!
Research is showing that body imbalance and brain-to-body disruption of communication can cause or complicate all kinds of conditions. The previously mentioned conditions are listed not because this procedure cures any of them, but because it demonstrates that the body can heal itself in many different ways if it is given what it needs to heal. The conditions listed have been known to improve or be eliminated when different individuals have had their atlas and/or axis, (C1 and C2) corrected. This does not mean that these conditions will be eliminated in every person who has their Upper Cervical spine realigned. It does mean that if the condition is being caused or complicated by an atlas/axis being out of position, the condition is likely to improve or be eliminated once the bones are repositioned.
Please note that 2 people can be diagnosed with the same condition and after their atlas is corrected, the condition in one may be completely eliminated, while the same condition in the other person may improve only a little. Carpal tunnel is a good example of this. If the problem is actually in the wrist, then correcting the atlas may help the condition only minimally. If, on the other hand, the atlas is causing irritation in the nerves flowing down into the arm and into the wrist, the carpal tunnel is likely to improve remarkably. Note, however, that 99% of the people we have tested in our seminars around the country, have all been imbalanced with one short leg. Even the person who has carpal tunnel in the wrist from repeated use of the wrist and hands such as a typist or a factory worker, most likely has a misaligned atlas as well. Correcting the atlas and restoring brain-to-body communication and body balance will, at the very least, help them cope with their condition better.
When an Upper Cervical Spinal Correction is made, Body Balance is restored. Stress, tension and pressure from the area below the Brain Stem are removed. This reactivates the flow of healing messages from the brain to the affected part of the body and immediately, the self-healing process begins. It is imperative that you have your atlas examined. It’s role in overall health is so crucial, you need to at least rule out the possibility that a misaligned atlas is involved in your condition(s).

Keeping Your Head on Straight Radically Affects Your Health

Help with allergies, asthma, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, and frequent infections? Read on...
It is of extreme importance to your health that the position of the neck allows for your head to sit balanced over the center of your body.
Sadly, the effects of gravity, poor posture, the weight of the head, or past trauma will cause neck and skull misplacement leading to something called "Subluxation", meaning the position of the head and neck is unbalanced and this can cause damage to the spinal cord and brain stem. Incorrect head positioning leads to improper spinal function.
This can result in a whole host of problems because the spinal cord, the brain stem in particular, delivers the messages from our brains to our bodies that keep us alive and functioning properly. Because the brain stem has this important job, problems with it can become expressed as abnormal function / symptoms in any part of the body.
Since this area “feeds” the ENTIRE body with crucial information any of the following can result:
Allergies, asthma, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, frequent infections, constipation, diarrhea, back pain, arm pain, leg pain, hormonal problems, menstrual cycle problems, vertigo, earaches, the list goes on and on.
The above list makes sense when you understand the simpleness of the truth. That the nervous system regulates ALL BODY FUNCTIONS and that if that system is not functioning as it was intended a problem can, and with time will, occur ANYWHERE IN THE BODY.
The above comments show, it's incredibly important to restore the skull and neck back to their normal position.
Such care can only be offered by highly trained doctors. Remember, standard manipulation and physical therapy will not resolve subluxation, and neither will taking medications or having surgery for its’ resulting effects.
Seek out doctors that are able to measure the degree of subluxation and provide a care plan designed to correct it. The problem and the correction of the problem can be measured through postural assessment, spinal reflexes, neurodiagnostics, and x-ray. A very effective approach for this damaging condition is Upper Cervical Care since subluxations involve this area of the neck specifically.

Anecdotal Evidence

Testimonials
Since I have been under upper cervical care I have noticed my posture is getting better, my allergies are less severe and I get fewer migraines. – Sarah
Since receiving care I have noticed many changes in my body and mind. My back pain is gone, I handle stress much better. I rarely get any headaches. My biggest change has been in my concentration. I drag race and I believe upper cervical care is giving me an edge on my competition. I am more focused than ever before. I am having one of my most successful years ever. Thank you so much. – Jarod
Before starting upper cervical care I was having digestion problems, after my first alignment I was regulated! I also was having issues with my cervix for a year my tests would show a low grade 4th stage cancer on and surrounding my cervix. After receiving upper cervical care my test came back negative. Upper cervical care makes me feel energetic and balanced. – Kylie
Feel much better overall – headaches gone, able to go (comfortably) without left heel lift, pain in knees (had two surgeries) gone for the most part. Occasionally left and right hands still fall asleep, starting at the elbow and wrist. – David
I have always had neck problems, waking up and having to crack my neck. I have noticed a huge difference after be under upper cervical care. I have less neck pain and it cracks less. I do feel more relaxed after every appointment. Some has to do with the 15 minutes of dark/quiet time that I necessarily wouldn’t get otherwise. – Heidi
I was pregnant with my 2nd child and started having problems walking. I couldn’t get my right leg to rotate properly and this caused me to fall. I got under upper cervical care after getting no relief from 2 other Chiropractors, one of whom I had gone to for 3+ years! The doctor explained upper cervical care and then “adjusted” me. Okay it wasn’t like any other “adjustment” I had previously. It’s more like it gave my body “cues” for alignment. I was never uncomfortable and there was a noticeable improvement in my mobility. I continued care and continue to see improvement. After my son was born, I brought him and my daughter in and we now visit periodically for check-ups. The visits are fun! Can you say that about your doctor? I trust the doctor with not only my health and life but with the health and life of my 2 beautiful children. – Barbara
Since I have been under upper cervical care I have had less back, neck and shoulder pain. I was taking Zomig on a regular basis for migraines and now very seldom use it. I also broke my ankle in 3 places in December 2004 and had knee surgery in April 2005. Walking normal again has been difficult, but the care has helped me with that also. Keeping my body in alignment is so important for all my general health. Thank you for caring about me and how I feel and for my future health. – Kathy
I have been experiencing increasing back pain for several years. I am not a person who uses medication, but the past three years, I have had to use extra strength Tylenol to get through the days (3x/week). I have received massage therapy and tried to increase my exercise (which helped a little). Recently, however, exercise was not relieving my back pain. My posture was getting worse – I could tell I was leaning forward just a little. Since I came under upper cervical care my back pain is significantly better. I feel as if I have more energy; I can exercise freely again and I am back to living life without the use of Tylenol. One side benefit is that even though I only use stairs to get to my destinations, recently my knees were beginning to hurt – Now I walk up and down stairs without pain. I have only been under care for 6 weeks! – Sharon
Before I was under upper cervical care I had suffered from migraines and back pain. Since starting care I have not had any migraines or back pain. Occasionally I will get a headache but that is much easier for me to treat than a migraine. I can only take Tylenol, due to being on Coumadin, and Tylenol doesn’t do much for me. I am a single parent and I need to feel my best at all times. Upper cervical care has given me that reassurance, in that the last few months I have felt great. I would recommend this type of care to anybody that wanted to lessen their amount of pain that they were experiencing. This type of care may not eliminate the pain 100%, but it will more than likely decrease the amount of pain you are suffering. The doctor is not only a wonderful doctor, but a fun person to talk with and joke around with! There is always new information to read up on at every visit. I am very pleased with the results that I have received under upper cervical care! – Kelly
