Want A Longer Life? Try Upper Cervical Care

13 Benefits Of Upper Cervical Care: Part 4

With few exceptions, all of us would like the opportunity to add years to our life, especially if they were quality years in which we could be productive or enjoy the activities of retirement. While it is true that people are living slightly longer than they did a century ago, it is debatable whether the quality of that life is better. We know though that it is possible to live a longer life, even to live a good, long life. There is an old adage that says, “If you want to live to a ripe old age, choose your grandparents wisely.” The point being that there are some things that are out of our control. We have a genetic “shelf life” built into each of us and that varies widely from one person to the next. Yet, generally speaking, experts suggest that the human body was designed to live 120-150 years. In fact, some scientists believe the human body was created to live a thousand years! Even taking the lowest figure, 120 years is still far more than most people live, although there are people who do live well over 100 years demonstrating that it is possible. If it is possible for one person to do it, then the body is designed to live that long.

Still, it is unusual enough that if someone does live to be 100, the local newspapers want to do an interview and ask him or her what the secret to longevity is. Some of the “secrets” these centenarians give are quite amusing and often contradictory. One will say he drinks alcohol every day, the other says he never touches alcohol. One says hard work, the other says no work! But of all the questions asked, one question is never asked. Why does less than only one in 1,000 live past the age of 100? What is keeping the rest from reaching the century mark?

Honestly, none of the 100 year olds seem to have a “special secret,” and there is no secret to longevity common to them all. As much as diet and exercise are important factors, that does not seem to be the secret. Many of them do not have diets different from the average person and many of them do not regularly exercise. Conversely, many people who eat well and regularly exercise all their lives do not live nearly as long. Does that mean you should ignore good eating habits and regular exercise? Of course not. But there must be something else, some factor that is common to everyone, that prevents 99+% of the population from reaching 100 years of age.

While not claiming to have the answers, I have a suggestion. The ability of your body to generate life, the vital mental impulses to all parts of the body enabling them to work in a coordinated manner, is essential to a long and healthy life. Some people may have naturally better functioning nerve systems, more powerful generators if you will. Clearly, the ability to get these vital messages through to all organs, tissues and cells is as important a factor as the ability of the body to generate them in the first place. It’s no coincidence that people who do not live to be 100 have bodies that quit working properly. The heart is the most common factor but we also blame pre-100 deaths on problems of the lungs, kidney and liver.

Here’s another question no one seems to be asking. If the body is designed to last 120 years, why do some of the parts break down along the way? One factor definitely is a lack of vital life energy from the brain to the parts over the nerve pathways. That is where upper cervical care comes in, correcting head/neck misalignment that can deprive the body of life-giving, life-extending, vital mental impulses. Does that mean that being under periodic upper cervical care will guarantee a longer life? No, there are no guarantees that you will not be hit by a truck tomorrow. But we can say just by sheer logic that, all things being equal and barring unforeseen trauma, if you have a good nerve supply, you have to live longer than if you do not. Just as, all things being equal, exercising and eating healthy will extend your life. Upper cervical care simply enables you to have a good nerve supply.

Choices, Health And Upper Cervical Care

(Editor's note: Today's post comes from the Atlas of Life November 2010 newsletter. Click on the title below to view the full newsletter.)

YOU LOOK & FEEL HOW YOU CHOOSE TO LOOK & FEEL

By Dr. Brandon Harshe

When my kids do something wrong, such as hit or scream at one of their siblings, or they ignore instructions we give them, they will face some type of consequence. Usually, the perpetrator screams, or cries, or whines when handed his/her sentence. The one thing we almost always tell them is that they chose the consequence. By behaving badly, they reaped a negative result. I do not think they get that concept most of the time, but through repetition, they will grow up understanding it eventually.

In fact, this is something we all need to understand. Including me. I have my moments where things will happen and I get frustrated, wanting to blame some exterior source. But in reality, the true source of my problem came from me.

There is no truer example of this idea than our health. Diabetes does not happen by chance. Heart disease does not happen overnight. Cancer is not a curse of our genetics. These diseases, and really most diseases, are caused by poor lifestyle decisions, point blank. I am not talking congenital heart defects or Down’s syndrome, I am talking about diseases that develop over time.

No one held you down and shoved a Big Mac down your gullet. No one put a gun to your head and told you to eat too much pizza. No one forced me to eat too much Halloween candy out of my kids’ stash. No one tied you down and made you watch football and drink beer all day last Sunday. Those are choices we all make, and the results of those choices are our doing, not someone else’s.

How many healthy, athletic, people eating plant-based diets do you see currently diagnosed with Type II Diabetes? Personally, I have never seen one. How many calm, happy people have you met with high blood pressure? Probably not many.

I know that if I eat at CiCi’s Pizza, I will feel flu-like symptoms and an overall sluggishness the next day… Basically I feel like garbage. That is how my body responds to my choice of eating awful food. Sure it’s a cheap place to take a family of six out to eat, but is it really worth it? Instead of trying to find some kind of medication that will take away my symptoms, I choose not to eat there anymore. Problem solved.

How about contracting a cold virus, or bronchitis, or the flu? Is that not something that happens to us by chance? Sometimes, but how many of us have been stressed with midterms, finals, work deadlines, meager finances, marital issues, or the death of a loved one? Those things put us into a state of stress, and that keeps us in sympathetic mode. The sympathetic nervous system is what controls the fight-or-flight response. Once in a while, it might be needed. But on a long term basis, this is what wears our bodies down, overuses our adrenal glands, and weakens our immune system, along with being sedentary and eating junk all the time, making us more prone to contracting a virus of some sort.

Dealing with that stress properly is what will keep us in parasympathetic state, which is where we want our bodies to be most of the time. I once heard Dr. Wayne Dyer mention that stress is not a physical, tangible thing. We cannot grab it out of the air. It is simply an idea in our mind. Replacing those stressed out thoughts with positive thoughts takes some work, but once you get the hang of it, life starts getting a little better.

Knowing that, and making healthier choices with our diets and activities, maybe, just maybe we can get to that level of optimal health we all want to experience.

It just dawned on me that, outside of (getting upper cervical care), I have not been to any kind of doctor in over 12 years. I have made choices in my life that keep me from needing to go to a medical doctor for anything. I am not perfect by any means… I still have so much to improve upon (ask my wife). But at least I am ahead of the game with my physical health.

You can be too. Quit sitting around, eating junk, and watching too many reality shows. Get up, exercise, eat some fruits and veggies, think positive (and get your nerve system and upper neck checked periodically).

Upper Cervical Care Stories Of Healing: Part 4

Editor's Note: Today our story comes from Upper Cervical Health Centers of America and their Cedar Falls, IA office. Again, please remember that upper cervical doctors do not treat any condition or disease. They are simply removing an obstruction to the body healing on its own. When this is accomplished and it stays that way the wisdom of the body can do amazing things.

Keith's Story

Have you ever considered walking across the yard? Ever actually think about it, or does it come automatically? How about walking across the room, or even getting out of your seat? Most people don’t give it a second thought. Ever drop something, even as small as a pen, and just bend down to pick it up without considering doing it? What if it hurt so bad to even bend down to pick up a pen that you considered leaving it alone? How long could you take that kind of pain? A day, a week, maybe a month? How about ten years?? Have you ever been afraid to pick up that dropped pen in fear that you might not be able to straighten up again, or that suddenly you would get a muscle spasm in your back so bad you would be laid up for a week or two?

That was my life for ten whole years! Most of the time I was in so much pain in my back and hips that to just get out of a chair or bed took some real consideration if it was worth it. The rest of the time was in fear that moving the wrong way would make it hurt so bad I would be incapacitated as a result. Sometimes it would hurt so bad I had trouble even breathing.

I went to see chiropractors – four or five different ones, with different approaches and techniques. None of them could keep me on my feet for more than a couple weeks. Then the pain would come back with a vengeance, sometimes gradually, sometimes suddenly, with a huge spasm. I also saw MD’s. Three of them assured me that it would take a “routine” operation, with a 50% chance of not getting any better. I decided I’d rather be in a wheelchair, which is what they “guaranteed” would eventually happen if I didn’t have the surgery.

I couldn’t hold a job because I couldn’t lift anything, walk across a room, or even sit for any length of time.

After about five years of back and hip pain, I woke up one night and noticed my heart had skipped a couple beats, then hammered quite hard for about three beats. It scared me so bad I went to the MD to have it checked out. He said a lot of people have it – could be stress, could be heart disease, so I went for an ultrasound and found my heart was very efficient – better than most. So why the funny heartbeat? I had also had chronic heartburn for many years along with everything else. Nothing could stop it, and I thought the symptoms were all connected somehow. I didn’t realize how right I was.

My wife had been working to support our family, as I couldn’t do much to make any money, being as crippled as I was. It was so hard for us to make it with 5 of us. I don’t know how we did it. I have to commend my Laurie for sticking it out with me. I was feeling pretty useless after ten years of this condition. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do, when Laurie told me she was going to quit her good paying job, and go to work for a “new chiropractor” in town. I thought, “oh good, somebody else is going to tell me he can fix me up. How long this time? A week? A month? Seen it before!”

Doc Troyer did just that, so I let him have a chance at my back also. Except he didn’t want to touch my back, but wanted to “correct” my neck! I thought this guy is REALLY going in the wrong direction! Hope he at least pays my wife enough to support our family while I remain crippled! I let him do the x-rays, and show me where my neck was out, and do the correction. It was all too easy, but the 20 min. nap was nice! Ten years of pain can make you a pretty serious skeptic. You had to “show me”, and I’m not even from Missouri!

I went home that day, took it easy, like Doc told me. When I got up the next morning, I was already in the bathroom before I realized it didn’t take me 20 minutes to get out of bed, as usual, and it didn’t hurt nearly as much doing it! Again, we’ll see – a week? A month?

Doc Troyer had me coming in regularly, and after 3 weeks of checking and a few more corrections, I wasn’t feeling too bad. The real test came when my 160 lb Rott decided to chase a cat. I KNEW what was going to happen to that cat! No adjustment was going to help poor kitty if he got a hold of him, so I ran after the dog. My Rott and I both stopped and stared at each other in amazement. Neither of us could believe I ran! I hadn’t run in over ten years. Doc Troyer was making me a believer! Again, time would tell, but this was more than anyone else had done, so I decided to stick with the program.

After 6 months, my heartburn was gone, and another 6 months my heartbeat went back to normal. That sounds like a long time, but you have to understand, my neck was REALLY messed up, and I was also making up for lost time. During that year I was running a 6 acre organic garden and scrapping cars, not taking it easy, like I should have been doing. I figured I might as well challenge those corrections to see how good Doc Troyer really was. He didn’t let me down. Since he started work on me, I’ve fallen backwards off of a car trailer on cement, been pinned down by a heavy piece of steel, lifted heavy objects as often as I could, and done some pretty amazing feats for as crippled as I was. I was steadily getting better through all the punishment I could subject myself through.

Today, I am 54 years old and can out work most 25 year olds, feel better than I have since I was 30 years old, and remain pain free! I owe it all to Upper Cervical care and Doc Troyer. Oh yes, and my wife for going to work for Doc and convincing me to give it “one more try” and see her boss about my pain. If you’re hurting and/or don’t feel right, you gotta give Upper Cervical a try. It’s NOT about the symptoms, it’s about THE CAUSE! Being pain free and feeling better can be so easy, and being as crippled as I was, is NOT any fun!
