Sleeping better with more focus

Written on August 5, 2013 by  in NUCCA Chiropractic Successes

What was life like before upper cervical care?
Okay health. I had migraines, and lower back pain, and shoulder pain spoadically–but it was manageable.
What about now?
I am sleeping better. I can get comfortable and sleep sounder. I have better focus, and am getting things done. No lower back pain and almost no shoulder tightness.
I really like that I’m actually holding my adjustments longer. I also like that I’m adjusted only if needed.

A lot of shoulder and upper back pain

Written on August 5, 2013 by  in NUCCA Chiropractic Successes

How would you describe your health before you began receiving your adjustments?
I was in a lot of shoulder and upper back pain.
What is it that you heard or read that made you decide to choose my office for chiropractic care?
I live nearby and I saw the office.
Were you skeptical about chiropractic care?
I wasn’t sure if it would work for me. I wasn’t aware of “upper cervical care.” It seems completely different than traditional chiropractors that crack and twist your body for adjustments.
What are the three benefits that you’ve noticed since you’ve begun upper cervical chiropractic care?
1. I am able to sleep more soundly and longer through the night.
2. I have better posture/more aware of my posture.
3. No more or reduced shoulder pain.
What aspect of this service have you enjoyed the most?
The minimal adjustments make such a profound difference. It’s amazing.

No longer sleeping away weekends

Written on August 5, 2013 by  in NUCCA Chiropractic Successes
Before upper cervical care?
My shoulders hurt and were uneven. I did not have much energy. I would sleep away my weekends.
Now, after a few weeks of upper cervical adjustments?
Now, I am happier, more social, and smile more. I sleep almost through the night, and I’m not waking up three times a night. I am more ready to go, rather than sitting at home. I feel more healthy and happy than I was before walking into your office. I am taking vitamins and eating healthier than I did before. I am very grateful.
Thank you,
Erik. H.

Recognizing problem posture

Written on August 5, 2013 by  in NUCCA Chiropractic Successes
Dr. Zach has helped me to recognize when my body is out of alignment, creating a change in my posture. His adjustments have significantly affected my sinus, snoring, and sciatica. I have found that consistent exercise and adjustments go hand in hand with positive results. His personal care is second to none.

(Editor's note: Remember the objective of upper cervical care is to correct head neck misalignment that is interfering with proper brain to body communication. When this is corrected the body functions at a higher level and can often correct other problems more efficiently on its own. Please do not confuse upper cervical care as a treatment for any condition, disease or symptom.)

More Incredible Facts About the Human Body

More, interesting facts about the human body you probably didn’t know.

1: Tongue Print
Don’t stick out your tongue if you want to hide your identity. Similar to fingerprints, everyone also has a unique tongue print!

2: Shedding
Your pet isn’t the only one in the house with a shedding problem. Humans shed about 600,000 particles of skin every hour. That works out to about 1.5 pounds each year, so the average person will lose around 105 pounds of skin by age 70.

3: Bone Count
An adult has fewer bones than a baby. We start off life with 350 bones, but because bones fuse together during growth, we end up with only 206 as adults.

4: New Stomach
Did you know that you get a new stomach lining every three to four days? If you didn’t, the strong acids your stomach uses to digest food would also digest your stomach.

5: Scent Remembering
Your nose is not as sensitive as a dog’s, but it can remember 50,000 different scents.

6: Long Intestines
The small intestine is about four times as long as the average adult is tall. If it weren’t looped back and forth upon itself, its length of 18 to 23 feet wouldn’t fit into the abdominal cavity, making things rather messy.

7: Bacteria
This will really make your skin crawl: Every square inch of skin on the human body has about 32 million bacteria on it, but fortunately, the vast majority of them are harmless.

8: Source of Body Odor
The source of smelly feet, like smelly armpits, is sweat. And people sweat buckets from their feet. A pair of feet have 500,000 sweat glands and can produce more than a pint of sweat a day.

9: Sneeze Speed
The air from a human sneeze can travel at speeds of 100 miles per hour or more — another good reason to cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze — or duck when you hear one coming your way.

10: Blood Distance
Blood has a long road to travel: Laid end to end, there are about 60,000 miles of blood vessels in the human body. And the hard-working heart pumps about 2,000 gallons of blood through those vessels every day.

11: Saliva Quantity
You may not want to swim in your spit, but if you saved it all up, you could. In a lifetime, the average person produces about 25,000 quarts of saliva — enough to fill two swimming pools!

12: Snore Loudness
By 60 years of age, 60-percent of men and 40-percent of women will snore. But the sound of a snore can seem deafening. While snores average around 60 decibels, the noise level of normal speech, they can reach more than 80 decibels. Eighty decibels is as loud as the sound of a pneumatic drill breaking up concrete. Noise levels over 85 decibels are considered hazardous to the human ear.

13: Hair Color and Count
Blondes may or may not have more fun, but they definitely have more hair. Hair color helps determine how dense the hair on your head is, and blondes (only natural ones, of course), top the list. The average human head has 100,000 hair follicles, each of which is capable of producing 20 individual hairs during a person’s lifetime. Blondes average 146,000 follicles. People with black hair tend to have about 110,000 follicles, while those with brown hair are right on target with 100,000 follicles. Redheads have the least dense hair, averaging about 86,000 follicles.

14: Nail Growth
If you’re clipping your fingernails more often than your toenails, that’s only natural. The nails that get the most exposure and are used most frequently grow the fastest. Fingernails grow fastest on the hand that you write with and on the longest fingers. On average, nails grow about one-tenth of an inch each month.

15: Head Weight
No wonder babies have such a hard time holding up their heads: The human head is one-quarter of our total length at birth but only one-eighth of our total length by the time we reach adulthood.

16: Need for Sleep
If you say that you’re dying to get a good night’s sleep, you could mean that literally. You can go without eating for weeks without succumbing, but eleven days is tops for going without sleep. After eleven days, you’ll be asleep — forever!

Upper Cervical Care is about allowing all of these amazing things to happen without interference due to head neck misalignment.

The Inner Light in All of Us

(Editor's Note: I thought this was very fitting for this time of year especially.  Enjoy what Dr. Frank Bowling has to say.  His words always seem to resonate with me, so I hope they do with you also.)

Inner Beauty, Inner Light

Emerson wrote, “There is no object so foul that intense light will not make beautiful.” Though he was a philosopher, when Emerson wrote those words he was simply describing the natural world. His appreciation of nature was so great, he marveled at everything in it, and the more clearly illuminated by sun or moon or stars, the more fantastic he thought each animal or insect or blade of grass or grain of sand became.

Certainly, Emerson’s words are true in the context in which he wrote them, but being an incorrigible armchair philosopher myself, reading them instantly sent my mind spinning off into an interpretation that perhaps he never intended, though one of which I feel certain he would approve.

I am, generally speaking, a positive thinker. I mostly see the glass half full. I expect that things are eventually going to work out for the best, and am fond of saying, “There’s a reason for everything,” though often times we may have great difficulty discerning what in the world that reason might be.

And so, when I read the words “intense light” in Emerson’s essay, I could not help thinking about the clarity that can come from focused attention in the present moment. So often, we find ourselves functioning on autopilot, and when faced with difficult people or situations, our initial or even sustained response may be to classify them as negative, or ugly, or in Emerson’s word, “foul.”

Yet, there is in this vast universe of ours an organization so complex, and so perfectly orchestrated and synchronized, any cognizant and coherent person must surely see behind, beneath and within it a universal intelligence. Surely, there may be a Master Plan, and if there is, surely everything that happens to us must be a part of that Grand Design.

It would seem to behoove us, then, to the best of our ability, to judge nothing that occurs, to accept people and events as they are, and to look inside our own hearts for the courage and wisdom to learn from them whatever we are meant to learn. We’re here to grow, and everything that happens to us is an opportunity to further that growth. If we can develop the ability and the habit of seeing the world and everything in it from that perspective, perhaps we can spark within ourselves that intense light of which Emerson wrote, so that all things may become for us truly beautiful, and we ourselves truly beautiful in return.

Wishing you health, happiness and peace this holiday season.

(Make sure you are shining bright this holiday season [and all year long] with periodic upper cervical care.)
