What You Need To Know Before Beginning Upper Cervical Care

When a person seeks upper cervical care and when an upper cervical doctor accepts a person for such care, it is essential that they both are seeking and working toward the same goals. Upper cervical care has one goal. It is therefore important to understand the goal and the means to attain it. In this way there will be no confusion, misunderstanding or disappointment.

First, one must realize that upper cervical care is not a substitute for medical treatment of any kind, in any way, for any reason. Also, no statement of the upper cervical doctor is intended as a medical diagnosis and should not be confused as such. Patients usually want to get rid of whatever ailments, symptoms or conditions are bothering them. This, however, is not the goal of upper cervical care. Upper cervical care is not intended to be a treatment of the symptoms of a medical condition or to treat the cause or causes of a medical condition.

The purpose of upper cervical care is to restore and maintain the integrity of the spinal cord, especially the lower brain stem. These vital nerve pathways are housed in and protected by the bones of the spine. Small misalignments of the head and neck can interfere with the proper functioning of these nerve pathways. Head/neck misalignment can come from many causes and prevent various parts of the body from functioning properly.

By means of an upper cervical correction, head neck misalignment is reduced and an interference to proper nerve function reduced as well. The goal of upper cervical care is to correct head/neck misalignment for the purpose of allowing the proper transmission of information over nerve pathways so that every part of the body may have a proper nerve supply at all times.

This allows the innate healing ability of the body to work closer to maximum efficiency. With a proper nerve supply health improves. In some, symptoms clear up quickly. In others, the process is slower, and in some, it is partial or not at all. Regardless of what the disease is called, the upper cervical doctor does not offer to heal or even treat it. Nor do they offer advice regarding the treatment of disease. Their only goal is to allow the body to do its job. Their only means is the correction of head/neck misalignment in order to restore/maintain proper brain to body communication. They promise no cure from and offer no treatment of disease, conditions or symptoms.

Why We Appreciate Upper Cervical Care

By: Daniel O. Clark, D.C., age 89

Now that I can live pain free without the use of drugs and pain killers ... it makes me appreciate Upper Cervical Corrective Care so much more.

Now that I am able to sleep through the night without getting up to go to the bathroom every two hours … it makes me appreciate Upper Cervical Corrective Care.

Now each morning when I wake up feeling good and anxious to work on the computer … it makes me appreciate Upper Cervical Corrective Care.

Now that I am able to eat food and it does not turn to pain … it makes me appreciate Upper Cervical Corrective Care.

Now that I am once again able to brush my teeth, comb my hair, tie my shoes and button my shirt … it makes me appreciate Upper Cervical Corrective Care.

Now that I am able to walk through the market with my wife and not be totally exhausted … it makes me appreciate Upper Cervical Corrective Care.

Now when I look around and see how other people my age are struggling with their health problems … it makes me appreciate Upper Cervical Corrective Care.

Now that I was able to put aside my wheel chair and dance at my grandson’s wedding … it makes me appreciate Upper Cervical Corrective Care.

Now that I can get up in the morning able to make my bed instead of wanting to stay in it all day ... it makes me appreciate Upper Cervical Corrective Care.

Now that I can once again enjoy the little things in life that I once took for granted … it makes me appreciate Upper Cervical Corrective Care so much more.

Upper Cervical Corrective Care, a new way to get well and stay well, restores the body's natural ability to resolve acute and chronic health problems without the use of harmful drugs and painkillers.

It requires the weight of the head be perfectly balanced on top of the neck to prevent misalignment interference in “brain to body communication” so brain messages can keep the body in a "healing mode" and provide a better quality of life for all ages.

Thousands of sufferers are now realizing the benefits of Upper Cervical Care despite there being so few of these Upper Cervical Doctors!

Just How Does The Body Work?

How the Body Works

-Author Unknown

Most people have been led to believe eating nutritious foods (including supplements), drinking plenty of fluids, exercising regularly, sleeping well and having a clean air supply will keep you healthy.

Well ....

These things are a vital part of living a healthy lifestyle - but every function in your body is under the regulation and coordination of your nerve system, which must operate at 100% for optimal health.

The Nerve System Houses Your Brain Messages:

Think about it. Your brain isn't programmed to make you sick or diseased - ever. Each human brain and nerve system is totally 100% programmed for optimal health and wellness and will manifest this every time unless interfered with somewhere in the system. Your brain stores thousands of genetic coding far beyond our scientific understanding of the body.

Establishing an Uninterrupted Nerve Flow is a Major Key to Optimal Health:

Your brain is continuously producing vital messages which are brilliantly decoded into electrical impulses with the purpose of performing an important function in a specific place in your body. Millions of these messages are sent every second of your life passing from your brain to your body cells and equally important, from your body cells back to your brain. Anything that interrupts the proper flow of electrical impulses through your nerve system should set off loud beeping alarms in the body, but it often doesn't - usually not until a certain amount of damage has already been accumulated.

Take a moment, followed by a lifetime, to appreciate your body and your innate life force that controls all body functions. Periodic upper cervical care can contribute in a big way to maintaining your body balance and achieve optimal health.

Want A Longer Life? Try Upper Cervical Care

13 Benefits Of Upper Cervical Care: Part 4

With few exceptions, all of us would like the opportunity to add years to our life, especially if they were quality years in which we could be productive or enjoy the activities of retirement. While it is true that people are living slightly longer than they did a century ago, it is debatable whether the quality of that life is better. We know though that it is possible to live a longer life, even to live a good, long life. There is an old adage that says, “If you want to live to a ripe old age, choose your grandparents wisely.” The point being that there are some things that are out of our control. We have a genetic “shelf life” built into each of us and that varies widely from one person to the next. Yet, generally speaking, experts suggest that the human body was designed to live 120-150 years. In fact, some scientists believe the human body was created to live a thousand years! Even taking the lowest figure, 120 years is still far more than most people live, although there are people who do live well over 100 years demonstrating that it is possible. If it is possible for one person to do it, then the body is designed to live that long.

Still, it is unusual enough that if someone does live to be 100, the local newspapers want to do an interview and ask him or her what the secret to longevity is. Some of the “secrets” these centenarians give are quite amusing and often contradictory. One will say he drinks alcohol every day, the other says he never touches alcohol. One says hard work, the other says no work! But of all the questions asked, one question is never asked. Why does less than only one in 1,000 live past the age of 100? What is keeping the rest from reaching the century mark?

Honestly, none of the 100 year olds seem to have a “special secret,” and there is no secret to longevity common to them all. As much as diet and exercise are important factors, that does not seem to be the secret. Many of them do not have diets different from the average person and many of them do not regularly exercise. Conversely, many people who eat well and regularly exercise all their lives do not live nearly as long. Does that mean you should ignore good eating habits and regular exercise? Of course not. But there must be something else, some factor that is common to everyone, that prevents 99+% of the population from reaching 100 years of age.

While not claiming to have the answers, I have a suggestion. The ability of your body to generate life, the vital mental impulses to all parts of the body enabling them to work in a coordinated manner, is essential to a long and healthy life. Some people may have naturally better functioning nerve systems, more powerful generators if you will. Clearly, the ability to get these vital messages through to all organs, tissues and cells is as important a factor as the ability of the body to generate them in the first place. It’s no coincidence that people who do not live to be 100 have bodies that quit working properly. The heart is the most common factor but we also blame pre-100 deaths on problems of the lungs, kidney and liver.

Here’s another question no one seems to be asking. If the body is designed to last 120 years, why do some of the parts break down along the way? One factor definitely is a lack of vital life energy from the brain to the parts over the nerve pathways. That is where upper cervical care comes in, correcting head/neck misalignment that can deprive the body of life-giving, life-extending, vital mental impulses. Does that mean that being under periodic upper cervical care will guarantee a longer life? No, there are no guarantees that you will not be hit by a truck tomorrow. But we can say just by sheer logic that, all things being equal and barring unforeseen trauma, if you have a good nerve supply, you have to live longer than if you do not. Just as, all things being equal, exercising and eating healthy will extend your life. Upper cervical care simply enables you to have a good nerve supply.

I Spy Books, Thermodynamics and Upper Cervical Care

Why is it that kids’ rooms always seem to be a mess even one day after they have cleaned it? “Clean your room” may be the phrase that parents most commonly use in the home. Of course, as adults we are usually no better. I am writing this at my home, a place where I often get the feeling that I am living inside an I Spy book. It can take an hour every night to tidy up the house at the end of the day and a day later it reverts back to the house of I Spy legend. Clutter and disorganization is the ruination of many a happy home or office and in the long run probably a greater thief of time than keeping things orderly.

For those of you with a similar problem, take heart. It is not your fault, it is the result of a scientific law. It is called the Second Law of Thermodynamics. It says that all processes manifest a tendency toward decay and disintegration. This results in a net increase in what is called entropy or a state of randomness or disorder of the system. In other words, things just naturally fall apart, break down and become disorganized. That is the natural bent of houses, children’s rooms, cars, home appliances, flower gardens and the human body. We even describe it as we get older in terms like “my body is falling apart.” As a side note, the Second Law of Thermodynamics is something the evolutionists do not want to talk about. How can the world and man be evolving to a greater degree of complexity when this scientific law says just the opposite?

So what is the answer to messy rooms and a random and chaotic universe? We know the cure for the messy room or cluttered desk is intelligent action, organizing things, filing away papers (where they can be found when needed) and putting the toys and dirty clothes where they belong. That is the only answer. Even better is intelligent action on a continuous basis. When the mail comes in, you go through it, throw away what you do not want, act on what needs your attention and file away what you want to keep. Have the children pick up their toys and put them away when they are done playing with them. A continuous intelligent effort is the answer to clutter.

Similarly, a continuous intelligent action is necessary to keep this world in an organized state. When it comes to living organisms in general, and human beings in particular, upper cervical doctors call that continuous intelligent action the innate (inborn) intelligence of the body. It is responsible for every physiological function in the body from digesting breakfast to making brain cells. When there is an interruption in continuous intelligent action in the body we say the body is in a state of dis-order or in-coordination. Sometimes the lack of intelligent action manifests certain symptoms which medical doctors describe as disease. Often it demonstrates no perceptible manifestation, no more than that one toy sitting on the floor off to the side which should have been put away.

Due to the complexity of the human body continuous intelligent action necessitates a properly functioning nerve system. When the head and neck become misaligned in such a way that it interferes with the nerve system there is dis-order in the body. Without any attention from the innate intelligence, the human body disintegrates back to the dust from which it came. Without the full attention of the innate intelligence the body will begin to move faster and faster toward a state of cellular chaos and ultimate dis-order. The Second Law of Thermodynamics will get us all in the end. It is a law. However, helping your nerve system function free of interference with periodic upper cervical care checkups can reduce the effects of that law.

Upper Cervical Care And Genetics

DNA, three little letters that no one ever heard of a century ago yet today almost everyone has heard of. Although most people do not know that DNA stands for, deoxyribonucleic acid, we do know that it is the blueprint for the human body. Within the genes of a fertilized egg are the plans for everything from the color of your eyes to the maximum amount of time you have on the earth. Scientists have even identified many of these genes and determined what their responsibility is in various functions within the body. Their desire is to alter these genes and to repair damaged ones that may lead to medical conditions. Genetic altering and cloning are just part of this entire concept that sounds very much like science fiction. But then who would have thought 75 years ago that we would be talking to each other on phones without wires!

The discovery of the genetic code was truly a great event, worthy of the Nobel Prize that it gained for its discovers. But in all the hoopla and attention paid to the genetic code we have lost sight of the fact that it is just a blueprint. First, a blueprint does not create itself. It is the result of thoughts of an intelligent person. The architect or the designer makes the blueprint. The blueprint may say your eyes are going to be blue but it did not design the thousand parts that make up the eye anymore than the blueprint grew the wood or made the bricks that will go into the building. That too took intelligent actions on the part of brick makers, and of course, “only God can make a tree.”

The major area where the genome discovers went wrong was to assume that the DNA makes the body, that it creates new cells to fashion the organs and tissues of the human organism. That would be like setting down the set of blueprints at the work site, dumping the bricks, cement, steel and wood next to it and saying “go ahead blueprint, erect this building.”

Blueprints are great, even necessary to the success of the building and perpetuation of any structure. (If a building was just thrown together without a design it probably would not last very long). DNA is necessary for the design and perpetuation of the human organism, but it is only a blueprint. The architect and the builder of the human body is a principle called life. In upper cervical care, we call that principle the innate (inborn) intelligence of the body. It even repairs and makes changes to the blueprint. It then takes the blueprint and creates the organs and system of the body. It will even make changes when the blueprint is not quite what it should be. The innate intelligence can compensate for weaknesses in our DNA. For example, just because you have a genetic tendency toward a condition like diabetes does not mean you will necessarily have the disease. The innate intelligence of the body can overcome certain genetic predispositions. It can do it a lot better if it is free to express itself. That is where upper cervical care comes in.

The innate intelligence uses the nerve system to cause function, adapt the body and compensate for genetic weaknesses. If there is an interference in the nerve system due to head/neck misalignment the body just cannot adapt and compensate as well. Your DNA is important. But remember a dead body has cells all with DNA and it does that body no good. Only the life-giving, life-enhancing innate intelligence of the body can direct the DNA to benefit you, your life and that of your family.

Upper Cervical Care And The Cause Of Health

We like to think that each symptom that we have has a singular cause but when it comes to the human body and its proper and improper function, it is not far off track to say “Everything Can Cause Anything” or “Everything Contributes to Anything.” We do not have single causes to something like disease, we have many factors. The latest so-called cause among members of the health care community is heredity. Yet many times members of the same family, even identical twins, do not “get” the disease that is supposed to be hereditary. There is no doubt that heredity is a factor but it is not the cause.

Stress is another so-called cause. Yet two people can work at the same “stressful” job and one ends up with ulcers and the other doesn’t. Or one has a heart attack the other does not. Is stress bad? Sure. Is it the cause of heart attacks? No. At best it is a factor. No one would say that smoking is not harmful. Yet, there are heavy smokers who do not get lung cancer and there are those who never smoked a single cigarette that die from the disease.

Bacteria and viruses are probably most commonly thought to be the cause of disease. Yet even in epidemics, the vast majority of a population does not manifest the disease. We say they had a “higher resistance.” So, it is either a high or low resistance that is the cause and not the germ. Or is resistance just another factor? What about the causes of resistance: diet, exercise, and/or rest? It all tends to be very confusing, especially when you are trying to prevent the cause of disease. “Don’t do this.” “Don’t eat that!” Butter increases cholesterol and cholesterol is supposed to cause heart disease. Margarine causes cancer. Choose your disease on your morning toast!

Perhaps we need a major change in our attitude. Perhaps we need to focus on what causes health, what causes proper body function, what causes increased performance on a mental, physical, and emotional level. It’s really rather simple: eating right, getting regular exercise, maintaining a nerve system free of interference (periodic visits to your upper cervical doctor) and having a positive mental attitude. In fact, it is so simple that most people in the health care/scientific community would rather look elsewhere for something they can do. You see, the “causes” of health are the responsibility of each individual person. And frankly, a health care provider cannot appear important turning the responsibility of health back over to the person. So science muddles along trying to find a new cause, one that they can treat.

Do you want to be healthy? Do you want to be all you can be in life? Then you must take the responsibility. Someone can grow good wholesome food but you must eat it everyday. Someone can build a health club or gym but you must be disciplined to work out two or three times a week. Upper cervical care can provide you with the opportunity to have your spine checked periodically and corrected when necessary but you must bring your spine into the office for them to do so. Take control of your life instead of waiting for “Something to Cause Something.”

The "Perfect" Diet And Upper Cervical Care

“For every illness, there is a country where it simply does not exists.”

This quote, from a direct mail promotional advertisement, is designed to get you to subscribe to a publication that claims to give you the secrets to preventing cancer, stroke, heart attack, diabetes and other diseases. They suggest that a natural diet which includes certain substances is responsible for the absence of certain diseases in certain countries. They further suggest that if you take these substances in supplemental form, you will not get these diseases either. There are a number of interesting aspects to this theory. First, independent of diet, people in these countries do not live to advanced age. In fact, they die at just about the same age as people in other countries, just not from these diseases. For example, countries with low mortality rates due to breast cancer have high rates due to bowel cancer or something else. It appears that people in these countries are not any healthier, they just suffer from different diseases.

This bit of information tells us that clearly there are a variety of factors involved in the development of any disease. Eskimos do not ordinarily die from cancers, but they do have an increased incidence of cardiovascular problems. Island populations that do not eat a lot of red meat do not have cholesterol-related conditions, but they often have stomach and bowel cancer from the high fish and seafood diets. The point is that there is no perfect diet just as there is no perfect environment. All have certain advantages and all have certain drawbacks.

This is not to suggest that what you eat is not important. Quite the contrary, everything that you eat is important. Likewise everything you do or do not do has an effect on your health and your longevity. Where you live and how you adapt to where you live are certainly significant factors in your health. Hereditary factors are also important, as is your ability to handle stress. So what is not important? Everything is important. There are literally hundreds of factors and causes. So the next time someone says they have the answer to disease, realize that they may or may not have an answer but they surely do not have the answer. Supplying a nutrient that is lacking in your diet may be an answer to one thing, the lack of that substance, but it is not the answer to all or any disease.

That is one of the great things about upper cervical care. We do not claim to have the cure for all or any disease or even the answer for back problems. We do, however, have the answer to one problem, an interference in the nerve system due to head/neck misalignment which deprives the body of working at its maximum potential in all areas. Upper cervical care is not a substitution for medicine, nutrition, exercise or anything else. It is one thing, only one thing, but this one thing can play a large role in you reaching your potential in every area of life.

We must also realize that since there are so many factors in health and in freedom from disease, it behooves us to focus on what we should be doing for our health rather than trying to prevent the thousands of diseases. No country is free from all disease. If there was such a country, it would be the most crowded spot on earth. Fortunately or unfortunately, the major cause of disease is not within the environment but within the individual and his or her ability to live in and adapt to the unique environment of that country. If you want to take supplements that is up to you, but realize that only addresses one factor relating to your health. Of course, ideally you would develop good enough eating habits that you would not require supplements and you would do a variety of other things necessary for good health and a productive life. Some of these things might include regular exercise, appropriate amounts of rest and a good mental attitude and by all means have your spine and nerve system checked periodically by an upper cervical doctor.

Building Health Or Treating Disease?

Man is either alive, or he’s dead.
If he’s alive, there’s a reason.
If he’s dead, there’s a reason.
Man is either healthy, or he’s sick.
If he’s healthy, there’s a reason.
If he’s sick, there’s a reason.
If he’s healthy, there’s a logical,
reasonable, and consistent explanation.
—Dr. B.J. Palmer

The above statement is the essence of Upper Cervical Care because it bases its practice on clear, logical reasoning. While there must be a reason, or perhaps many reasons for disease, it is more important to find the logical, reasonable and consistent reason for health. Addressing health is far more important than addressing disease. If you get rid of a disease but do not restore health, a void remains. Into that void will come another disease or perhaps the same one will return. You must have health, it is prerequisite to getting well and to the prevention of disease.

The logical reason for a lack of health is that the body is not functioning as it should. In fact, that may very well be the true definition of health, a state in which each and every cell in the body is working as it should. If we follow the logic of this thinking, it would make sense to examine the body and determine if the body is working properly and if it is not, why it is not. We in the upper cervical work believe that we have found a cause. We admit that we have not looked further for other reasons why the body may work at less than perfect efficiency. There may be others, we just have not looked for them. The reason is that the cause we have found involves the nerve system, the master system of the body, which is concerned with the organization of every activity, the production of every chemical, and the running of every cell. Further, we have found that interference in this nervous system can occur in just about everybody and occur in the spine where the head and neck join. This is enough to keep us busy.

What is the reason for sickness? That is the job of the medical doctor to determine that reason or reasons. It may be that one of the reasons for a disease, a major one, is a lack of health. The problem is that medicine is not looking for a lack of health, which is inside the person. They are looking for outside causes, bacteria, viruses, the environment, the weather, stress, as well as things you put into your body. It may be that there is some importance to those things but a lack of health, a body not working properly, is present in every situation. The medical doctor does not look for that. He cannot be expected to. He was not trained to do that. The role of the upper cervical doctor, to find one possible cause, an interference in the nerve system where the head and neck join. In correcting this interference to the nerve system, the body will work better in all situations under all circumstances. That is a prerequisite to a healthy body.

Digging Up Holes?

The following is a story found in "Enhance Your Life Experience" By Dr. Joe Strauss. I know that it is a bit long but I am sure that you will enjoy it.

***

The front yard had mysteriously acquired large gaping holes sometime through the night. George Look surveyed the once beautiful lawn with the feeling that one has when they lose a dear friend or relative. It was not just the area between the house and street. This was George's child, his love, it occupied every moment of the confirmed bachelor's early evenings until the sunset, from April 1st until November 30th. He knew the neighbors would be gathering soon. Some would offer condolences. George could not bear the thought of them telling him they knew how he felt. They could not know. They had not spent the hours tenderly caring for their lawns the way he had. None except for Ben Warton. But even Ben's beautiful lawn could not hold a candle to George's. George knew Ben was jealous. There was almost a competitive spirit between them and not a friendly competition at that. Ben would surely gloat over George's misfortune.

The large white truck arrived late in the afternoon. It was very professional looking. Printed on the side in large, black letters were the words:

DR. JOHN B. PITFALL
LAWN PHYSICIAN

A tall, thin, distinguished gentleman stepped out of the truck. He had on a crisp, white coat and a large mop of snowy white hair to match. His face was tanned and confident. A faint glimmer of hope welled up in George's heart. This man was the best Lawn Physician in the entire Eastern United States. George had felt honored when Dr. Pitfall had agreed to take on his case.

"Thank you for coming, Doctor." George tried to sound calm, despite the fact that his heart was beating madly.

"I don't usually take cases this far from my office, Mr. Look, but your case intrigues me. When did you first notice this problem?"

"Just this morning, doctor. The lawn was fine
yesterday."

"Ever have a similar problem?"

"No, never."

"How about your lawn's general health?"

George took pride in his healthy lawn. But he realized this was not a time for bragging. He racked his brain for any indication of what could have caused this problem. After careful thought he responded, "Other than chinch bugs two years ago and some occasional brown spots in late July, the lawn has been fine."

The doctor stroked his smooth chin and scanned the homes up and down the street. "Any of your neighbors have this type of problem?"

"Okay, Mr. Look, we're going to be doing a few tests. Why don't you go in the house. My assistants will be along shortly and we'll be bringing some heavy equipment in. Out here you'll just be in the way."

George dutifully obeyed the doctor. Once in the house he drew open the drapes at the picture window, pulled over the easy chair, and sat down to watch. What he saw was impressive. The lawn physician and his assistants went to work with the skill of a finely?trained team. They took pictures of all the holes, every one of them, from every conceivable angle. George noticed the doctor talking to one of his assistants, a big burly fellow. The man nodded as if concurring with Dr. Pitfall's observation and then drove off in the truck. Thirty minutes later he returned with what appeared to be a large measuring device. He went to each hole, measuring the depth and the width and noting the slope of each one. A nurse followed him around making notations on a clipboard. George could not hear what they were saying through the thick windowpanes but the serious looks on their faces were anything but encouraging. The activities went on for the better part of two hours. George was impressed by their workman?like attitude but at the same time somewhat annoyed at their apparent detachment. Didn't they realize this was his one and only front yard?

It was getting on toward dark. George had not left the picture window since the examination began. Finally Dr. Pitfall, aware of George observing them, motioned for him to come out.

"We would like to do a few more tests tomorrow Mr. Look and I have a colleague I would like to call in on consultation. He'll be here tomorrow also. We should have some news for you the day after."

"What do you think it is, doctor?"

"I'd really not like to venture a guess until all the tests are done and the results are calculated. We have to go back to the office now and run a lot of these figures through our computers. We'll see you in the morning." With that, they all climbed into their trucks. Neither the trucks nor the doctors and nurses looked quite as white and crisp as they had earlier in the day. George was left standing among the holes in his yard as they drove off in the direction of the setting summer sun.

They returned the next day as promised and worked from early morning until almost sunset. Then left without a word. They returned the following day. There were more tests, more pictures. Each time there was one or more new faces. All bad the same white coat, same tan, same serious expression. On the fourth day they did not return. Midway through the morning George received a phone call from Dr. Pitfall's office. The doctor would be coming to speak with George.

Shortly after noon he arrived.

"Sit down. Mr. Look."

George dreaded those words. Whenever a doctor on television tells someone to sit down, it's always bad news.

"George, I'm going to be honest with you. This is by far the worst case of holes in the lawn that I or any of my colleagues have ever seen. To be perfectly frank, it doesn't look good."

George had been sitting on the edge of his easy chair, the one he had spent the better part of the last four days in. He slumped back and spoke, his voice faltering, "what can be done, doctor?"

The doctor walked over to the window and gazed out upon the lawn as if to give it one further examination before pronouncing its fate. "The only hope is," he paused for what seemed an eternity to George, "major surgery. I'm afraid George, unless we dig up those holes, your lawn hasn't a chance."

George sat up straight. "You mean you're going to remove the holes?"

"That's right."

"But doctor, how can you remove a hole? I mean," George stammered trying to find the right words. His mind was spinning. "I mean, how can you dig up a hole?"

The doctor gave George a condescending smile. It irritated George. "Oh, we have a fine instrument. We can be in and out of here in one morning. It can remove every hole, take it right out. I have to admit it is a rather untried procedure, but frankly George, I see no other hope."

George rubbed his temples with his fingertips. "I just don't know."

"Look George, if you would like a second or third opinion I could give you the names..."

"No, doctor, I'm sure you're right. It just doesn't seem... I just can't believe... it doesn't seem possible that digging up the holes is the answer." George got up and walked over to the picture window. He stared at his lawn remembering the lush green carpet that he had mown only a week ago. He turned sharply, looked the doctor in the eye and said, "when can you do the operation?"

"We will be here Monday morning."

George rarely ever opened the drapes of the front picture window. When leaving his house, and he only left to go to work or the store, he avoided looking at the front yard. It had been almost a month since the operation. Even before the big machinery began tearing into the soft, rich, dark earth George had this gnawing feeling that it wouldn't work. Dr. Pitfall had tried to cheer him up by saying they were able to reduce the number of holes to only a few large ones. The neighbors' condolence cards were appreciated. Except for Ben Warton's. Suggesting that George put a large hedge around his front yard was in poor taste. There was one card, from Mrs. Deery up the street. She had suggested that George try a Lawn Restorer. As the sight of the lawn became more painful, George gave more thought to her suggestion. Finally one morning he called Dr. Thomas Cause, Lawn Restorer. The doctor arrived in a small pickup. It was not white. He did not wear white and there were no assistants with him. He was, however, a friendly, soft-spoken, kindly fellow. He seemed genuinely concerned over George's plight. George began to relate the lawn's history to Dr. Cause but the doctor stopped him.

"Mr. Look, I know you've been through a good deal with your problem and you obviously have had some experts looking at your lawn. I don't pretend to be able to do something they could not do." George face dropped. The doctor was smiling. "However, Mr. Look, I believe I have something I can do for your lawn that will benefit it."

"You mean you can cure holes in the lawn?"

"No, I didn't say that. As a matter of fact I cannot cure any problem. But what I can do is restore dirt and frankly, Mr. Look, whatever condition your lawn has or doesn't have, it would be better off with a full complement of dirt. You see, a Lawn Restorer is really a dirt replacer." He went on to explain a little more about his philosophy. It made sense to George. After they had talked awhile longer George walked over to his lawn and looked into one of the large holes.

"Don't you want to see the pictures or read the Lawn Physician's reports?"

"It's not really necessary to my procedure, Mr. Look. We are not really doing the same thing. He's removing holes, I'm replacing dirt."

George laughed aloud. "Well, I've gone the hole removal route and look what it's gotten me." He pointed to the gaping holes. "I guess I've got nothing to lose by trying... what did you call it?"

"Dirt replacement, Mr. Look."

"When can you begin?"

"I'll be here tomorrow with a truckload."
George thought for a minute, still not convinced he was doing the right thing. "But how will you know how much dirt my lawn needs without all the tests or at least looking at the Lawn Physician's report?"

"Good question, Mr. Look. I'll be in with a truckload tomorrow and begin to fill the holes. I'll just keep bringing truckloads until they are filled. It's really a very simple concept and procedure. When the holes are filled, my job is done."

The next day Dr. Cause returned, this time with a large truck full of dirt. He began to back it up toward the closest and largest hole. George raced out the front door.

"Hold it, doctor," he shouted over the roar of the truck engine. "Can I talk to you for a minute?"

The Lawn Restorer climbed out of the truck cab and the two of them walked a distance from the idling truck engine.

"What seems to be the problem, Mr. Look?"

George was somewhat embarrassed. "Can I be frank with you Dr. Cause?"

"But of course, please do. If there is anything you don't understand or want explained further, I would be very happy..."

"It's not that, it's just, well you see, I met this Lawn Therapist yesterday in the garden shop. He was buying a truckload of fertilizer and we got to talking. He called himself a Lawn Therapist Physician. He said I should have some tests done, that maybe my problem was a nutritional deficiency in the lawn. He also thought it might be six foot tall gophers. He said he would do those tests and sort of hinted that you should also."

"Let's sit down over here, Mr. Look. Remember I explained to you that I am not a physician?"

"Yes."

"I do one thing only. I fill holes with dirt. Your lawn needs dirt. Whatever else it needs, it needs dirt. You must understand Mr. Look; I only am a 'dirt replacer.' You or someone else will have to take the responsibility for seeding, feeding, cutting, raking, watering and maintaining your lawn. I personally feel you are the person most qualified to do those things. However, sometimes you may need professional help. If you have six-foot tall gophers, you may need a Lawn Exterminator. I am not trained or equipped to deal with gophers. Perhaps vandalism is your problem. I cannot sit here all night and protect your lawn. Do you see what I'm saying, Mr. Look? Your lawn has many needs. Under most circumstances you are the most qualified to meet those needs. From what I've seen of the other parts of your lawn, you do a fine job of taking care of it."

George felt his face flush with embarrassment. The Lawn Restorer continued, "But whatever your lawn needs and no matter who supplies those needs, one thing is for sure, it has no chance of being healthy and beautiful without a full complement of dirt. That is what I do."

"Dr. Cause, I'd like to have my dirt restored. Let's get to it!"

"Okay Mr. Look."

George stood back and watched the Lawn Restorer at work. His philosophy was different. His procedure was not orthodox lawn medicine. He didn't act like a lawn physician. But even as these thoughts raced through George's mind, he noticed that his holes were disappearing. With every truckload his lawn was returning. The "dirt restoration" was working.

Six weeks to the day after meeting the Lawn Restorer, George Look stood in front of his picture window. His lawn had returned to normal. Periodically Dr. Cause would come by and spread a little dirt here and there when needed. Other than that, there were no problems. George was a happy man. The neighbors were amazed. They marveled at the difference in George's lawn and told him so. It was once again the most beautiful lawn in the neighborhood.

***

Of course, it seems rather absurd to view a hole as an "entity", something that has material existence and can be removed. Any rational person realizes that a hole is merely an absence of dirt. You can only create it by removing the dirt and you can only correct it by restoring dirt. But our health is no different. Disease is like holes - it is the absence of health. Disease only occurs when health has been lost. Trying to remove disease is like trying to remove a hole. We need to begin to view health as the entity and disease as the non-entity, the absence of health.

Your Upper Cervical doctor views health as the entity, as that which needs to be restored in order to fill the void that we call disease.

Does Upper Cervical Care Prevent Disease?

The prevention of disease seems to be of major concern to many people these days. The public is beginning to exercise to prevent heart problems and cut down on cholesterol to prevent cardiovascular disease. They are quitting their smoking habits to prevent cancer, and on and on. Prevention of disease, however, perpetuates a very serious misconception concerning disease, that is that it has a single cause. If a lack of vitamin C were the cause of the common cold, taking vitamin C would prevent it. While resistance is dependent upon vitamin C, it also depends upon a number of other factors. That is why three children in a family can all drink their orange juice and two will get a cold and one will not. Resistance depends upon how well the body is working, how well it can utilize vitamin C, the amount of rest a person gets and, of course, the frequency of coming in contact with the virus. There are probably a dozen other factors as well, many of which we do not even know and some we cannot control.

If exercise prevented heart attacks, Jim Fixx, the guru of running, would not have had a fatal heart attack on one of his daily runs. There are people who smoke two packs of cigarettes a day for thirty years and do not get lung cancer. Conversely, there are people who never smoke a cigarette and die of lung cancer.

Here is the point. There is only one thing that is truly effective in preventing disease, that is staying healthy! The more things you do to promote your good health, the greater the likelihood of not ending up with a disease. Exercise is important, but it is only one piece of the health picture. Vitamin C and all the other aspects of good nutrition are another piece. Avoiding poisons like cigarette smoke is another. The more aspects of health that you address, the greater your probability of being healthy and the greater your chances of preventing disease.

Of course, maintaining the integrity of your nervous system is a vital part of health. That is where upper cervical care comes in. You should correct head/neck misalignment because it can interfere with the proper function of the nerve system. Besides directly improving the nerve supply, maintaining head/neck alignment also indirectly affects the other aspects of good health. If there is interference in your nervous system, you may not be able to properly utilize good nutrition or get the maximum benefits from exercise and rest. Your body will be less resistant to the poisons you cannot help but be exposed to, like second-hand cigarette smoke.

If you want to prevent disease, the proper attitude is not just doing certain things to prevent certain diseases. That is a futile approach. There are just too many diseases. The proper approach is to do those things necessary to be healthy. Perhaps if everybody were doing everything necessary to promote and maintain health, we would not have to worry about preventing disease. That seems to be the most intelligent idea.

Immunity and Upper Cervical Care?

Skeptics of upper cervical care question how it can help the immune system in the absence of scientific studies. One could also question how physicians for the last 100 years could say to drink fluids and rest if you have the flu. Does fluid drown bacteria? Does lying down cause a virus to die? Of course not. Clearly rest and fluids do not affect the microorganisms. They are intended to help the sick person’s body, specifically his or her immune system. This helps the body fight the microorganisms and their effect. Doctors have found through common sense and experience that the ability to fight off microorganism (the immune system) is improved by resting and drinking fluids. No one had to do studies. It is a self-evident fact. (Actually when you are sick you really do not feel like doing anything else but lying down. That is the innate (or inborn) intelligence of your body saying “rest”). No one is about to suggest that doctors stop making that recommendation until a Harvard Medical School research program can be completed in which 1,000 people with the flu will be allowed to drink fluids and rest and 1,000 others with the flu will be made to walk around while deprived of fluids.

Upper cervical care is based upon the same logic. If there is an interference in the nerve system, the immune system, which is intricately linked to it, will not function properly or at least not as well as it should. If you shut down the nerve system completely (death), the immune system will not work at all. Therefore, if you interfere with its function, the immune system will work at less then 100%. It is not necessary to do studies. It would be ridiculous to demand that physicians do the study outlined above to prove the validity of rest and fluids for the flu. It is just as ridiculous to do research to prove that upper cervical care helps the immune system work better. It is a self-evident fact. If the nerve system works better, every system in the body works better, including the immune system. Notice that upper cervical doctors do not claim that their care cures the flu, the common cold or anything else. We just maintain that if there is interference in the nerve system, the immune system will not work as well as it should and if that interference is removed, the immune system will work better.

How much better? Well, we do not know. But then we really do not know how much benefit fluid and rest are for the immune system. All these individually or together could be the difference between getting well from the flu or not. The point is that we just do not know. There are a lot of things about health, the human body, proper function and human potential that we do not know. In fact, there is probably more we do not know than what we do know. That is one of the beautiful things about upper cervical care. We do not have to wait until we have proven data from research studies. We can know that upper cervical care is good based on logic, common sense and self-evident facts. That is how physicians knew that rest and liquids help people fight the flu. That is how we know upper cervical care will enable the immune system and every other system in the body, for that matter, to work better.

The View From The Other Side

Your frame of reference is important. How you view life, the world, your fellow man and the human body will often determine the outcome of your life. It has been demonstrated that doctors diagnose and treat based upon their frame of reference. Dr. Lawrence Horowitz, former director of the US Senate Subcommittee on Health, states “Women have a 70% chance of having their uterus removed by age 75 in a certain city in Maine. Women living in other cities in Maine have a 25% chance.” Was the first group of medical doctors bad physicians? No, they just had a hysterectomy mindset. Their frame of reference said, “Do surgery.” The point of the article was to get a second opinion. However, that would be of little value if you were to go to a physician in the same town. It could even get quite confusing. Suppose you went to a town where the doctor had a “no surgery under any circumstances” mindset and you really needed the surgery! Perhaps that is why some people prefer the philosophy extolled in the Chinese proverb that says, “Man with one watch always knows what time it is. Man with two watches never knows.” It seems easy enough, pick out an authority and do whatever he says. Unfortunately, whatever the authority says will be based on their frame of reference. Should not your decisions be based on your frame of reference or, at worst, on the advice of someone who has the same frame of reference as you?

Your frame of reference is really your outlook on life. The Upper Cervical Care frame of reference says the human body is designed by an Intelligence far greater than the mind of man. It maintains that the body was meant to run and heal itself from above-down, inside-out. This frame of reference also says the body was meant to be healthy and that being ill is not normal. Medicine, on the other hand, views the body as greatly limited. Upper Cervical Care views the body as having great ability. Medicine views the body from a negative viewpoint (i.e., disease) and Upper Cervical Care from a positive viewpoint (i.e., health). Medicine sees the signs and symptoms of disease as the body breaking down, Upper Cervical Care sees them more often as a means of adaptation. Medicine views life as an overwhelming obstacle that cannot be overcome without the use of chemicals. Upper Cervical Care views life as a challenge that can be met with great joy and result in a better, stronger individual.

How you look at life is important. In fact, many authorities in the health field maintain that a person’s outlook directly affects their health. People with a positive attitude generally have longer, healthier lives. It obviously affects your enjoyment of life. Your frame of reference will affect your outlook, but most important, your frame of reference will affect your decision-making process. If you have a health frame of reference, you will address your attention to health. If your frame of reference is proactive rather than reactive, you will go out and search for health rather than sit back and wait for sickness to occur and then run off to a man who has a sickness frame of reference and a remove-the-organ attitude and do whatever he says.

Upper Cervical Care is a positive, proactive approach to life. It doesn’t tell you to do this and to not do that. It tells you that your body is always better off without interference in the nervous system. It just makes sense to have your spine checked periodically. It is also important to educate yourself in matters of health, use common sense and listen to your body to determine what you need relative to matters of health.

Dreams, Heart Attacks and Upper Cervical Care

First it was stress, and then it was cholesterol, now we cannot even go to sleep without worrying whether we are going to have a heart attack before the alarm goes off in the morning.

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine “found that during most stages of sleep the heart rate and blood pressure fell. . .” However, during the “rapid eye movement sleep” (that is the period in which dreams occur), the heart rate and blood pressure rose and the fight or flight part of the nervous system worked at a waking rate causing the release of stress hormones. It is believed that this could precipitate heart attacks in people with heart problems.

Well it stands to reason. We like butter on our bread and they say that causes heart attacks. We like a nice, thick, juicy, medium-rare steak and they tell us that that will clog our arteries. Now dreaming is going to get us. Well, we can skip the butter and avoid the red meats but how do you stop dreaming short of avoiding sleep? Depriving yourself from sleep would do it but somehow it seems that not sleeping would be detrimental to your health as well. The worst part is that if we worry about all these things, the worry itself could cause a heart attack. It has been well documented that worry may be a culprit in heart disease.

One of the great things about a health approach to life rather than a disease approach is the freedom from fear that it brings. If you are doing those things necessary to maintain your health, things like eating right, exercising regularly, getting the proper rest, keeping your nervous system free of interference and maintaining good, positive-mental attitudes, you do not have to spend time worrying about disease. You can even spread butter on your bread, have a moderate amount of red meat in your diet and eat a hot fudge sundae once in a while.

Working at health is not easy. It takes some effort, time, and money to regularly exercise, rest, and visit the upper cervical doctor. The upper cervical care approach to health is one of using common sense about every aspect of your life, primarily in keeping your nerve system free of interference. The upper cervical doctor will make your visit as quick and effortless as possible. But it does take time. But then, working at preventing disease is not easy either. It robs you of some of the pleasures in life, focuses your attention on the negatives of disease and sickness and still does not remove the worry. It seems to me that the health approach, using common sense and then sitting back, relaxing and enjoying life is much better than the stress of worrying about a disease “getting you.” Pleasant dreams!

All Aboard The Upper Cervical Express

ALL ABOARD!

Disease treatment (represented largely by medicine) and health restoration (represented by upper cervical care) are two approaches to the health and well-being of individuals. They are like two trains on parallel railroad tracks. The two trains are essentially going to the same destination, that of physical, mental and emotional well-being. The objective is to lead a long, productive and fulfilling life, expressing your maximum potential through as much of it as possible. Which is going to get you there in the fastest, most efficient manner? If we can follow this analogy, we might describe the medical track as the Local and the upper cervical care track as the Express line.

The Local (medical) track is really not concerned with getting its riders to the ultimate destination as quickly as possible. It has another priority, stopping at every little junction along the way. This is analogous to the idea of treating diseases. Medicine believes that by treating disease, “scheduling” their train with disease in mind, they can reach the destination. Some people ultimately do reach a long, productive life, despite the many disease stops they make along the way. Sadly for some, due to genetic problems, poor health care as a child and injuries, they have no choice but to take the Local. But there is another group that is even sadder. This is the group that wants to reach the train’s final destination but still chooses to take the Local. They make every little stop along the way and often never reach their ultimate destination.

In traveling back and forth between New York City and Trenton, New Jersey for three years on the Express an individual could never understand why people would opt for the Local rather than the Express. He could understand if they were only going to Princeton Junction, but if they were traveling all the way to New York, why take the Local? Most of the time the reason was fear. The Local was standing in the Trenton station ready to go. The Express, on the other hand, was coming up the east coast from Florida and had not arrived yet. Despite the train station’s assurance that it was “On Time,” they opted for the Local. He would always smile as the Express passed them somewhere south of Newark.

Taking the Express does not guarantee you will get there sooner. The train could break down or be delayed, and there are still a few stops that it has to make along the way. Upper cervical care is not a guarantee that you will lead a healthier, more productive life. You could get run over by a truck walking out of the upper cervical doctor’s office and even if you don’t, you will most likely have a few “disease stops” along the way. But if you are truly interested in being as healthy as you can be, leading a full, productive and long life, your best chances are in taking the Express.

Upper Cervical Care: Changing Lives

Upper Cervical Care, first and foremost, is not about pain, disease, or making you better or improving upon you. Never has been and never will be. Well, what the heck good is it then? Why would or should anyone even be under care? Upper Cervical Care is about allowing that which is inside of you, THE POWER OF LIFE, the chance to fully express itself free of interference.

We know that when you take away the brain the body dies. This tells us that the brain regulates and maintains all body functions. If the brain can communicate with the body as it was intended then we can expect the body to be healthy. If the brain cannot communicate with the body as it was intended then we can expect health problems to develop. It has been shown that head/neck misalignment, whether felt or not, carries the potential to have a profoundly negative impact on this crucial communication cycle.

Upper Cervical Care recognizes the life importance of this communication and ventures to correct this structural interference to its expression.

Do symptoms and diseases go away under Upper Cervical Care? Many times they do but it is because the body begins to work correctly.

It ultimately comes down to this, do you want to express life closer to your potential? Then visit an Upper Cervical Doctor and see what your body can do, because the best doctor is the doctor within you. If it is just allowed to express itself, with time, it can heal you of most anything. It is as simple as that!
